ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

Well now it is my turn for an annoying post!

I am very interested in the technique behind these speed checks which seem to be winning people races all over the world these days. I think Bathurst is going to be interesting at forests elbow with nobody footbraking anymore.

From what I have seen the weight of the body needs to be put right foward while in the crouch then using the back foot to kick out the tail. I have tried it a couple of times but worry that if I kick to hard the board will end up squared and stop which will mean I fly off it.

Anymore handy hints where speed checking is concerned?

fookbreaking is just as fast as speedchecking depending on the style of corner and how fast you come into it...i seen a lot of guys doing either one in euro and chased down many who checked a corner while i chucked down a foot and wasnt much different....then done checks into other corners which was faster....it takes alot of skill to keep your exit speed without scrubbing too much....just keep practicing
Its all what your comfy with, having predrifting, speed checking and foot breaking dialed you will have alot more choice depending on the turn. Personally i like to foot break with my inside foot (left foot for a left turn, etc etc) then drift the turn if needed, it seems to be fast.
Sean, do you change feet for left and right turns? if you do that's gnarly man
well i am naturally mongo, i just break with my inside foot, for two reasons, firstly because i am not as good at turning left so breaking mongo for me is more natural and helps, seccondly because i am able to shift my weight into the turn abit before taking it by using my left or right foot depending on which way i am going. I only found this out because i wanted to stop footbreaking mongo all the time but found that its only faster for me to go reg when i turn right
