ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

Skatehorde is looking at putting together videos to introduce the 2009 IGSA racing season and some general information about downhill skateboarding and racing.
You can see the calendar in the left column of skatehorde or at the IGSA website

The idea is to preview the 2009 IGSA races. Also to profile the top racers and the racers to watch. We'll mix up a bit of last years race footage, with interviews. Also to help new people get interested in the sport.

How can you help?
I'm interested to know what questions you would like us to ask the racers? Any information/details you would like to know that would help you get into the sport, understand the sport, become a bigger fan of the sport.
Open call. I'm interested in everyone's opinion from someone that has just found this website to the regulars.

something about getting it on tv...thus incurring increased audience and then popularity. if you could formulate a question out of that then that would be good...
oh, if it did get a tv segment. compulsory helmet cameras would be rad!
Dont need to ask them questions really. I can ask the worlds best riders whatever I like right here on ASRA. But if I was to ask questions to international racers what would they be? What do you do for work to raise money for your travels? Is there a skating off season where you live and if so what do you do instead of skating to tyde you over? How did you find the sport? what keeps you in the sport? Where do you see the sport going in the next 5 or 10 years?
How They View The Culture Inside The Longboarding Community Or The Culture That Is Trying To Be Achieved. Because Anything To Do With A Board And Four Wheels Has Always Been Denoted In Society As The Recless And Lawless Kids.
i would like to know how they train , how often they would skate per week , do they recognise strengths and weaknesses with their skating.I think some footage of racers training solo would also be good showing potential riders what they are in for.People may look at downhill skateboarders as dudes who just jump on a board and go fast i would like to see a video that portrays them as athletes who put in the hard yards.
i agree with Guff. i think the whole "athlete" aspect of the sport should be documented more than it is. to be the best racer, you have to be fit and athletic and that is something people don't associate with "skateboarding".
Haha Andre, you read my mind.
andre i train very hard to be fit and strong when i ride...the hills that we race on overseas are very long and hard on the legs so anyone who doesnt do some sort of training will pay for it real quick...downhill skating is totally different to any other sort of skating it is so technical and even the biggest party animals do some sort of training..unless you have the luxuary of a 5km long hill at your front door then most of us have to do some sort of fitness..we are trying to get away from the stoner lazy ass skaters theme and be treated as athletes who participate at a world class level..this whole topic is about introducing everyone to downhill and getting away from the stigma skating has in this country..
as for what id like to see hop is ridder profiles,,safety outlines and gear reviews and maybe good starter hills for those new to the sport also showing how hard some of us really train..
A bit off topic but I would like to see some beginner slalom days organised at easy legal locations around the country filmed by skatehorde, interviews with sport development team members who will be voluntering their time to organise such an event in their home state. You could film beginners being given a certificate at the end of the days training.
We need to capture a more long term commitment to growing our sport in Australia ,especially a focus on bringing youth into the sport.
Terrigal beach has a fresh bitumen small carpark that ASRA could try get a legal practise day event organised for beginners, There are a few young naccos riders that could help encourage other kids by showing them how.
This would also be very good in possibly aquiring future grants from Sports Australia. In the public eye not a backstreet.
Manly bicycle/skate track along the beach, council could be contacted to use a small section for a day with a very easy long wedge ramp for beginners to roll down for momentum through a easy course say 15-20mtrs.

Sector nine could be approached to provide some off their beginner style slalom decks as part as a sport development sponsorship or Hopkin Racing, skaterHQs,tracker, etc.
Something which they answer how much control they feel with the speed , with tuck, out of tuck, other peoples wind brakes etc
I think I remember Daddow saying something like this on a small segment on fuel a while back.
something like "There's nothing like the feeling of hurting down a hill, a few cm off the ground."
I guess I'm saying the feeling of dh skating, though make it a whole new experince (don't just say it gives me a rush)
