Do you go through a lot of shoelaces on your skate shoes due to sliding on them when you come of your board?

If so. How long on average would a pair last?

A good racer will always have a spare pair of laces with them. I  saw two shoes fly off. Both the same guy, the same corner and the same foot. If you can't do your laces up you shouldn't be riding anything at speed.

Hi BJ, a mate of mine in California came out in the beginning of the year to do hiking out here and he had laces on his boots that looked like a fine entwined rope but felt more like very thin strands of steel.  virtually indestructable and when tied together could support my weight (105kg) swinging off a tree branch.  We could barely cut them so they should then be able to handle anything bitumen could throw at it.  Can't remember the name of the company who makes them sorry, but my mate is finding out for me.

Old School Richie from NACCOS has already made some Lace Pucks (pat' pending)

about 18 months ago, I saw the protos, seemed to work well & not look too bulky.

BJ, like Kanufi said, duct tape is the go for cheap lace protection.

Yeah Dani. That was Mike Snyder from Vegas with the rocket shoe.

It flew higher than the f*#kin' trees on 1 crash.

Damn this thread was just getting interesting. ;-)

Has Richie done anyhting about taking it further?

An old employee of mine that skates parkes a lot is sick of buying new laces and has made a thin plastic fitting that tucks into the shoes and folds over the laces. Taken him years to get to this stage apparently. Works well for him and he is looking into having them made overseas and selling them. But like people have said in this discussion, more of a skate park problem.

Cheers PC

Thanks Davin. I don't have the problem with laces being a noobe to the sport, so don't really need to know about he laces. Although others might.

I think BEAR GRILLS must use them also! Seen him climb trees with the cord from his back pack and shoe laces.

BJ. Vert skating is where laces take a beating, from knee sliding out of bails (falls).

Your mate could be on to something, or not.

Lace saving devices have been built into shoes & added to shoes for along time.

Bar Beach at Newy has a new 11' deep vert bowl just about finished, this would be a good place

for him to let a few people try them out them & get some feedback on them.

Before he commits $ into it. shame he's going for overseas production.

But as you already know, function doesn't always over-ride fashion these days.

Just look at helmets.

I ride Vert alot, as well as DH. i have 3 extra sets of laces in my bag all the time, however I just bought a new pair of vans and decided to get a ugly strap of leather a shoe goo it right on there, vile looking, but works a treat. its not just the laces that cop a beating but the entire shoe. seen lots of little inventions designed to take the brunt of wear but nothing works as well as a whack of leather over the toes...

There is a market, but there's also a lot of other people out there with things that work...but there to busy skating to promote or produce....

Theres a brand called royal elastics that i use.
They have elastics and unless your a spastic when you go to foot break or you have a very thick rubber glued to the bottom, it wont come off unless you slip it off. Thats for the low cut sneakers. If you get high cut then you'll have absolutely no problem.
You can get them at Hype or foot locker.
