True. I think nose cones and bitching spoilers are the next big thing in downhill.

Alex, our body and the position we ride in makes the majority of the differance when it comes to aerodynamics. Your body creates more disturbance as far as airflow is concerned, compared to ours. The other factor is the luges are alot bigger in area than a skateboard, which means any aerodynamic "component" we add to the luge design will have a greater effect, as compared to a small longboard (area). You could try putting "wheel spats" on your wheels, see how it goes.
Chaput ALWAYS is!!!!!!!!

sick article! i m a science student and thats the first article i've acctually read all year!
good read!
Very cool to read! Risches new lid maybe not as boss as it looks hey? Apparently the previous helmet designs were better. All very interesting!
I remember Pete coming back with the data when he did all that. Indeed helmets make up very little percentage of your overall Drag effeciency. You body is the big problem to focus on. Also, the most aero helmet is infact.... no helmet at all, maybe just a swimming cap (or shave your head haha)
Did you know Pete made his own WOOD bushings to use in the wind tunnel so he would not move at all during the experiment?
the new lid isn't in that test. Areo1 is the Doris and Areo 2 is some real old monster Risch helmet.
Pete is a machine. Remember him talking about foot bindings so he wouldn't have to come out of his tuck....

were they actually WOOD bushings or did he just buy a set of Doh-doh's?! hahaha

Even more interesting is the fact that even more than a year AFTER finding out the giant bellend looking helmets are actually less aero than smaller, normal shaped helmets, Pete C, and others that were privvy to the info at the time, have still continued to wear their Richs, Beat Engles etc. The lids are proven to be less aero than a regular lid, yet they still use em???
I know what makes me faster... having a fat dude infront of me on the hill ;) DRAFT THE FATTIES!
