ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

So this may have been discussed but I have done a search and can only find stuff on helmets.

I have seen footage of all sorts of crashes Daddows roll at newtons 09, dudes getting to their knees and sliding on the pads specifically, (landy 925 you tube vid) and others.

When I have crashed I have tended to end up either taking a few steps and just sliding along on my front with my gloves out in front, or another time I ended up on my shoulder sliding along and moved back to the
hands out in front push up position.

So I have ended up with hip and rib grazes and at times my knee pads slide down my legs in this position and I end up with knee scrapes. Tighten up the top Velcro strap?

So is there anything you can think of to help me and others how to minimise damage even when in full safety gear. (don’t fall off, haha)

I always have a helmet and glove.

Almost always have knee, elbow pads

I now have leathers

I know you only have a millisecond to react but is it better to roll, (daddow at newtons 09) commit to the knee pad plant (landy 925 you tube vid)

or is there some stunt man skill I should know about.

I just think this could be a really good thing to be discussed with heaps of new people starting up and the “safety class benbro is doing” safety class in Newcastle.

Cheers adam.

Anyone know of a brand of super shoe laces. Along the lines of draggin jeans. ie super teflon or kevlar etc so they don't get stuffed after one crash.

Well I always go for the toes and hands when Doin dh. So elbow pads gloves and tough shoes help with this

For like freeriding
Just heighten your reflexes and learn to land
(motorbike position aha) and you will most of the time get out of it without even scuffing your pads

have you bought from that site before? Or know anyone who has? Can you get them in aus?

pushups, swimming and any other upper body exercise will make crashing safer because your arms will be able to support your weight when you fall to the ground making it less likely for you to graze your hips and ribs.

Yep well I been charging the push ups for the last few weeks but I haven't fallen off again yet but I can catch my body weight now when I dive at the ground much better.
I know everyone says rolling is a bad idea, and this is certainly true for higher speeds. But I've always found that, for just pushing speeds, if you're fast you can roll straight over and back to your feet, escaping with maybe light scrapes. There's certainly a technique to it, like anything else practice makes perfect ;)
