ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

Flying to perth tommorow and want to take my timeline, i was planning on squeezing it in to a bag but it won't fit without really jamming and threatening to tear the bag so i need another means of bringing it. For other people who have flown domestically with QANTAS how did you take your boards?

I might ring up and ask if hand luggage is an option. Has anyone just checked it in as normal luggage and had it put underneath with everything else?
experiences?

Thanks.

take trucks and wheels off, pack them , and put your deck in a cricket bag or something similar

they wont let you take it on the plane, but you can check it in just as it is. they can give you a big plastic bag to wrap it up in and put a fragile sticker. then they will check it in as another item of baggage. but still its always a lucky dip on how its going to come out on the other side.

u really need to put it into some sort of bag to protect it because people at the airport throw shit around and dont take much care. ive checked boards in like that just on their own plenty of times before and mostly they come out fine, but the last time i did that on an international flight home from NZ my board came out with a huge chip on it and one of the wheels were fucked. however i did make a dammage claim and and managed to score $90 out of them because i said i cant replace just one wheel and i need to buy a whole new set. When you buy your plane ticket you need to make sure you get your basic travel insurance which covers your luggage in case of damage while in transit

Maybe call them. Their site has no info on skateboards, just snowboards and surfboards.

Maybe remove your trucks and pack them in the bag, then wrapped your board in heaps of bubble wrap. Just a thought, I've never flown with a board.
Ok thanks that helps heaps :)

If you're able to get bag that fits your board, fill the empty spaces with clothes, etc. Check it in as a snowboard. I've flown qantas with my board bag checked in as a snowboard.  Check snowboard allowance on the website. I've also checked my board bag in as a golf bag as well. Some airlines give you more weight allowance if it's a golf bag.
Gaff tape your board to your bag. Thats what I do everytime.
yeah i think i'll go with that robbo, that way its still just one piece of luggage and stuff
its way to late now but i flew to canberra from brisbane with QANTAS. i took trucks, wheels off and wrapped but deck in bubble rap and then gaff taped it and wrapped cardboard around it. when we arrived in canberra it was the last thing off the plane..meaning it was squashed by a heap of luggage. its in perfect condition and now has a bit more give in the board.
i just removed hangars and squeezed it in bag.
But i did see a sign at the airport saying no skateboards in hand luggage for future reference.
Calgary to Amsterdam - Last week Brit took her new Rayne Hustler on as hand luggage. Guess you need to be an 18 y.o blonde chick to get away with that....
nah, probs cause the board was new i reckon
im in the airport at hong kong with 3 decks, they let me hand carry mine.
