How do I make an easy/cheap nose/tail protector?

This is what Bear toll me to do
"Rear one is simply a bit of about flat alloy strip app 1.5mm x 10mm, stick
it on with a thick spongey double sided tape, cos the fsu has a rounded edge,
so the spongey tape takes up some gap, then gaff tape over the top.
Front one is "C" section or "U" section rubber from clarke rubber,
put it on longer than needed, bog in heaps of shoo goo to fill out the profile
gaps, after its set then trim it back nice and neat.
Alloy strip goes over the top of the rubber same as for the rear.Then gaff
tape over that."
Is that and omni?

That sounds like it will work and it's easy.

what mark said will probably work the best, a more simple method is get a piece of high pressure hose (the black one same size as a garden hose but has much thicker walls) cut a length of the tube off, cut the tube in half so you have a strip of it with a big concave to it, then shoe goo/ contact cement it to your nose.

I copied this idea from Fitz.
I bought the rubber from Clark Rubber. You'll need longer bolts and some bigger washers to prevent the bolt heads from ripping through the rubber. I have one on the tail of the board too. They haven't been properly tested yet, but I reckon they'll work well at least once.

no photo but i have a couple of homemade ones that are a little sturdier than the rubber ones, although i'd say that just rubber strip would work fine
mine are both made from steel, they actually cover the nose of the board, and act like a bumper like on a car, jus shields the actual board from the impact, ive also sloted the bolt holes so that the shields slide back to absorb impact

i did the same, only with a cutting board :), seems to work, cut slots into the cutting board so that the friction between the bolt, cutting board and deck absorb some of the force of the impact when the "nose guard" slides back. kinda like the bombsquad nose guard.

Yeah, probably a bit soft and grippy.
Clark Rubber do have some rubber that I want to try for soles. It's called something like "super wear"; it's meant to be a type of flooring and has a subtle check pattern on one side. It costs about $110/metre and they wouldn't sell me any less than half a metre. I reckon 60cm of it would be enough for 12-14 shoes, which is about $5 per shoe. It's not the flaky stuff that a few people (including me) have tried; it's more solid.

I use that same rubber for foot breaking. It works and doesn't wear too fast.

My mate used rubber from Clark Rubber for soles on his foot breaking shoe and he said it work pretty good

I Think I have some of that stuff bugs, Magun sell it for $30 a piece (1 shoe). I recently put some on one of my shoes, its like half way between the softer grinded rubber and a car tyre. If you want to get some bugs I'll split you the cost for a metre.
