ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

Is someone out there able to tell me how many racers/spectators attended these two races last year?? I cant find the info anywhere. I am slowly losing faith in the professional nature of the IGSA and am becoming irritated in the lack of information they provide on ANY subject except the rules of racing to cover there own backsides. WOW!!! ANGRY!!!

IGSA is a sanctioning body they are not promotors, all other info re: spectators/total rider numbers and rider caps is owned by the promoter of each race, All info regarding rider qualification, race format and results are posted on the IGSA website. Any info regarding the financials of each sanctioned race remains the property of the individual promoter. Just like at ASRA the IGSA are a group of guys who get off their backsides and do what they do without pay. The IGSA put out the Rules of racing each year which include a broader set of rules regarding safety. Without this all you would have a series of amateur outlaw scratch races each year with riders and spectators getting hurt and very bad publicity for the sport.

What exactly are you trying to find out? If you want info re: Maryhill you will have to contact the promoter and race organisers of Maryhill not the IGSA. If you want info regarding Newtons you must contact ASRA directly (BRC controlled spectators and off track events, ASRA controlled on track riders). This year ASRA will be the direct promoter. If you are after info about rider caps and formats for each race you will find this info is not available until closer to the event, rider numbers and caps are effected by a promoters ability to manage the numbers/type of track/days of closed rd available/insurance cover/discipline spread. Some of this info is on a need to know basis on the discretion of the promoter.
here is a link to the information regarding rider numbers on the IGSA website for Maryhill 2008, here are the results/numbers/names of all registered riders in all disciplines for Maryhill 2008 on the IGSA site or look at the info on the ASRA site for Newtons and Maryhill for further info regarding the event in 2009 you would have to get in touch with John Ozman at Volcanic Promotions
Thanks kindly for your answer Rob, I wasnt really having a go at the IGSA I was just tired and frustrated and they seemed a good target. I am talking to a potential sponsor for these two races but they of course want to know how many eyes aree actually going to see there name on my arms or legs so they would like some figures on spectators and competitors.

Got competitor figures now thanks to Robbo, anyone got an idea on spectator numbers for these races? rough guess is ok.
Re spectator numbers; most of them are sitting at home/work looking at photos on the IGSA site, this site, silverfish etc. That's good, but the sponsor can then go one better by using those photos in their own advertising/marketing material (assuming they have the legal rights to those photos). That way they can keep getting their image in front of new sets of eyeballs, maybe for years to come.

So spectator numbers at the event are only a very small part of the potential.
Yea, maybe I just tell them I cant find any numbers on crowds. I will keep looking this arvo.
maryhill was on US television last year. Youtube it. It was quite a glossy 1/2hr program explaining the sport. Millions would have watched it around the world.
Spectator numbers are difficult to get from maryhill as this was not a ticketed event, Newton's was a ticketed event but this is commercial information owned by BRC the promoter and was not released. In terms of coverage Maryhill was shown live on a number of cable tv stations in the US and a full event was shown delayed on NBC nationwide. I'm not sure what Euro coverage there was. So you could say it was available to all 240 million Americans but I would not know the actual ratings.

Newton's was televised delayed on Euro TV, was covered each day on sports tonight, had the results and video sports story shown on WIN and Prime local in NSW in the lead up to and during the event and was given coverage during the sports reports for most national stations. Channel Ten broadcast a 1hr documentary nationally twice about QLD boys, Bathurst and Newton's, Fuel TV produced a program that was shown on cable. Sunrise broadcast live one morning on channel 7 from newtons and had the weather guy go down conrad on a luge. A number of childrens programs including Totally Wild broadcast a complete show from newton's. It received widespread coverage in local print media and more limited coverage in national print media. What people perceive to be extreme sports tend to get more photo and video coverage then straight print coverage.
Champions, cheers guys. That will do just fine! Long live the A.S.R.A!
Total number of spectators and competitors at Newton's 08 = 2,461
all the races i went to overseas there wasnt a huge amount of spectators..its usually held out of town and up in the mountains so its always going to be hard to get big numbers at the event..but like robbo said its all about the media coverage..i know we are getting the same film crew following us down there again and making 3 more doco's..1 about how the rest of last years race season went, the the season leading up to newtons and last one on the event itself..we have pages and pages of media coverage around queensland downhill so just ring all your local papers and tell them about events your attending and usually they will come out and get a few shots to run a story..its always hard to tell sponos how much coverage they are going to get cause you really cant tell..it all depends on your results aswell..goodluck danni but dont get stressed we have been chasing sponsors for ages and it aint easy..
Thanks heaps guys. Makes it a tad easier for me. Im not to stressed about sponsorship, I can fund these races myself if need be but it would be nice if I didnt have to wear the bill totally. We will see what happens. Cheers again guys.
