of coarse its easy to break an arm look downhill your gonna get injurys but you cant worry bout shit like that cos its innevitable its not a sport for the faint hearted
i dunno when i started doing things like skating and even snowboarding i was always taught the most important things was to know how to fall, when u start out u tend to fall a lot at slower speeds, so if u start trying to make ur self fall in a way that is comfortable to you (for example onto ur knee pads like jacko said) in higher speed crashes ur body will naturally want to fall like that

i dunno, thats just what i was taught, could be complete bs, but i don't get to many injuries, and im not the best of riders and tend to find myself on the bitchumen every now and then
knees then hands
for me its hands then knees then toes when it comes to high speed crashes. but like jacko said, your never in control of a crash so you just gotta make the best of it at the time.
Jonty,
When I posted the links they were meant to save me explaing how to do what my original advise was....

Lean to footbrake with your rear foot to control speed before wobs hit. Next you need to learn to emergency safety slide to stop once you start losing it. Coleman slide is best.
These guys have all the DH advice you need. Check out the safety tips they have.

Here's some more advise.
If you lose it beyond the point where you can't footbrake or slide to save yourself, stick your head between your legs and kiss your ass goodbye.

There are many different ways to eat shit. weather you choose a spoon or fork it doesn't matter.
Timeships method is to bail onto knees like most skaters because this is where the most padding is. If you read the link properly it states:

If you are unable to get to your knee pads, you may be able to tell sometime during the 'one step'. Finding yourself in the "Superman" position with one or both arms in front of you also tells you that your next option is to Roll It!

Is the best way to fall by curling up and trying to hit the shoulders and roll?

What do the experienced riders do when they fall at high speeds?

according to this it is, but i find it hard to figure out how you'd be able to this if you were to fall unexpectedly at high speeds.
Sorry some boring stuff; for some. Flexibility is pretty much the key in helping to avoid a lot of serious injuries in most sports.
Bold statement! Warm an elastic band up and then stretch it until it breaks, it will stretch a lot further than a cold one, welcome to muscle fibres. If our muscles are warmed and stretched and we carry a decent amount of flexibilty when we do fall we tear less as our limbs and muscle, tendons etc give just a little more before they give out. Strength and flexibility, will help you fall less as you have more control and will make things easier, especially recovery times when you do.
There is a complete "Fit 2 sk8" program my business is putting together at the moment that in the coming months we will roll out and all this will be covered.
HOWEVER, boys.......how good is the skating just after that moment when you know you can neither stop or get off? damn that's a buzz
fallin on your knees is for vert skaters, with vert pads on,fallin to your knees on a road makes me cringe at the thought,
