if your just starting off dont worry about Icaro, you will spend sooooo much money on them and your right, they are mainly for paragliding and do not offer much safety. Stick with MTN bike fullfaces or look at BMX full faces, as far as bang for your buck goes, you cant look any further
yeap, paragliding helmets are generally way more expensive and offer less protection, ppl usually wear them for its aero features. there's nothing wrong in getting one if you can afford it but be advised, like most helmets if you eat it hard you'll have to replace to helmet because its meant to absorb impact and be destroyed. personally, i'd go with what jacko said, mountain bike or bmx bike fullfaces. mountain bike like 661 and netti helmets are really light so i'd check them out.
Giro Remedy!
speaking of bang for my buck.went out today and got a protec B2..not 20 minutes later my wheels regripped mid slide...when my board was at a 90* angle...needless to say, i went flying, landed on my shoulder, then my lip, then the side of my face (i think) not once did my new helmet touch the ground, i now have road rash on my face, a lip the size of jay-z's and i've only just pieced together what happened due to my injuries, because i can't remember it at all. OH! and i have blood on my board. yup, one hell of a bang for my $90...
dude, this is a topic that seems to arise every now and again; and I haven't been here that long. The big thing about helmets is that in both the perfect and the real world one good hit and you throw them away...if not you may as well not wear one anyway. Sooooo the question is where are you with your skating?
I am wearing a road motorcycle helmet by Kylin with a removable visor from the helmet wharehouse in NSW that set me back $99 they do deals on a regular basis; today you can get this for $99 http://thehelmetwarehouse.com.au/store.php?crn=217&rn=798&a...
As a sports therapist obviously I am well aware of the whole weight issue of helmets when we need them most; the hevier the helmet the more chance the risk of neck injury. But I live in the real world and $99 to me for a quality standard helmet (for my sport) out ways the risk of neck injury...in the perfect world I would be spending over $200 2 or 3 times a year for a new lid. This is by no means a recommendation in any way; just food for thought!
cheers for that yeah i found others that offered the same amount of protection for half the price !! just gotta make a visor now..
