Mongo footbreaking is so rad, but gnarly. As your riding ability improves over time so will your ability to be able to mongo break at high speeds. Work your way up as far as you can without scaring the crap out of yourself...
I have a mate in Germany who is also mongo style. He changed his mongo to normal footbreat. he still pushes mongo. He said "it is safe to break the normal way".
Footbreaking is very important !! Skate safe bro...
I have always riden a skateboard but more freestyle shit. recently i've started trying some Dhill after seeing all you guys when i've been luging! I ride Mongo but I push off normal (thats a bit out there I know!). I naturally tried braking normal coz I was pushing off with that foot but hey that freaked the f#@k out of me changing from mongo stance to put my right foot down to brake.
Recently I've been training myself to brake Mongo (the way I ride) despite still pushing off normal and it has worked wicked! I guess it's like anything if you start with baby steps and work your way up eventually it becomes natural!

p.s Mongos Rock!!!
Yeah I was doing that but thats what screwed me so I've started braking goofy. I wanna be able to do it both ways!
I guess you could say im ambidextris(mind the spelling) I'm left handed and used to be the Australian Pairs Ice Figure skating champion(sounds Gay I know but where else do you get to lift a chick in the air by her snatch!) I was taught to skate right handed, in that I would do all my jumps& rotations the way a righty would! I guess thats why my left and right are so confused!
Just remember that if the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body and vise versa, then only those that are left handed are in their right mind!

hey phil do you slide your back foot up to center then drop your front foot off ? .. thats how I do it . but recently Im just doing normal braking.
I found that if I got the (sweet) spot in the deck then mongo braking was easy .but I could never hit it every time which freeked me out just not being sure once I dropped that front foot down if I was going to wobble out...arrrgh.splato lol

my goal would be to be able to break both ways
I skate mongo as well Hamish. Although I must admit I am still trying to figure out the footbraking thing. I have sort of given up as I have just learnt to Pendy and it's a hell of alot more fun. That being said I have to learn at some stage I suppose if I want to race (Pendy's in groups are not a good thing for anyone involved). I have seen some awesome Mongo skaters breaking at wild speeds so it certainly can be done, its all about your own compfort levels.

Peace
Dani
thats actualy vfunny phill.
I can push normal but it feels v unko but footbreaking normal would be a instant faceplant.
