I'm currently riding a Landyachtz Switchblade with Bear 852s, and I'm thinking of getting some more DH oriented trucks. I've narrowed it down to three trucks: Sabre 190s, Caliber 44s and Caliber 50s. I know I'm likely to get wheel bite with any of these trucks, but I'll probably deal with it by using some risers, 70mm wheels rather than my current 76mm, and sanding some wheel wells into the board.

My questions are:

1. Regardless of board, which of these trucks is most and least likely to get wheel bite?

2. Which of these trucks would be more stable at high speed?

Correct me if I'm wrong with these thoughts/assumptions I've made:

a. Sabre trucks are fairly decent at carving but the 45* angle will give good stability. Sabre trucks bring wheelbase in a little.

b. Caliber 44s are not going to have limited carving ability, they're going to bring wheelbase in a decent amount but are going to be stable due to the lower angle.

c. Caliber 50s are going to be very sturdy and able to take some decent speed, but still will carve considerably at low speeds. Won't give as much lean and stability through turns and will be a little like my current Bear trucks.

Very much against this.
After all that you still just have a cast truck but you've spent like $150 and theres already a couple of people in the thread that have said calibers feel better than sabres; and from my experience they feel better than paris.

Not saying this wouldn't feel good, it might feel sick for you man, just saying its an expensive way to go about it.

my advice, get the sabers then once u have a bit more cash buy some paris hangers, wack them on and you have sarises! nice and carvey and stable!
So as far as kingpin upgrades, just because I'm going to be on the safe side and order a kingpin with my bushings, What size would be good? I'm looking at the Hopkin Grade 8 kingpins. I have no clue how long the stock bear 852 kingpins are so i have no clue... I'm also worried about the strength of the stock kingpin... I've busted a stock paris kingpin before without being rough on it at all.
yea i rode sabers for ages then bent em so bought some paris hangers so it was worth it for me! i also like the dive you get out of the open bushing seat so they re nice and carvey.
2.75 Inch would be fine i think.
the 3 inch might be a little bit too big.
I know that a 2.5 inch kingpin on randals is barelllyy enough to fit venom barrels so 2.75 would be all sweet.

Get these because they look cool http://www.hopkin.com.au/race-kingpins-2.75-grade-8-sold-as-a-pair....

right on the money there dude, 3 inches is too long, 2.5 is okay, but 2.75 is good. and your barrels in the bears you will find are a little smaller than venom and sabre ones.
There is a thread by 'the bear' on how to get the kingpin out, bear kingpins don't like to budge very easily, but they are strong!
Thanks for that... I was just gonna hit it hard with a hammer, but the way the pictures show looks potentially far less damaging to the baseplate...
