I saw the pictures Ching uploaded and was wondering if anyone else has any simple ideas for camera housings that have worked for them.

modified watering cans work well,good handle,cut of spout,etc,etc..foam glued inside,positioned for the camera to sit snug.similar to chings just can use different containers,watercans etc..plastic watercans that is.

I actually had a plastic watering can housing before this. wasn't a very practical model though cause it was slightly angled so footage wasn't so good. They don't sell very good watering cans in melbourne :(
The fruit juice container is the best so far. Wasn't that hard to mod, good filming angle and pretty easy to carry when you're skating

I put a giant hook on mine so it could be passed along easier. Its also lower to the ground.
My main problem is that I dont have a wide angle lens, so aiming it properly is harder.
Ghost Rider did OK with it. Heres a vid he shot one night using the hooked cam. He got right in amongst the action. I think he did a good job. :)

how did you get the camera to fit in that matty? and how did you get it to stay secure/in the same place.

wasn't there a thread on using the watering can as a housing a while back? there were some pretty good pictures and instructions but i cant seem to find it.
just gotta mess around with some sponge (or some sort of foam) and super glue. stick it to all four sides so the camera is just snug.

i've been considering that recently posted set up myself...
and yeah, a wide angle lens attachment is a must for it to be worthwhile i reckon... i've noticed videos with a wide angle aspect look a lot faster with the peripheral speeding by (visually more appealing ,) i ordered one earlier today - $30 - thats about 1/4 the price a few years ago, so maybe check out that option too. most of them are 2 in 1 - wide angle and 2x optical zoom
i like the longer handle idea too - has the added function of (potentially) preventing the container from rolling and bouncing after a spill ,)

Being 15 is crap for this reason, before I can even make the casing, I have to convice my parents to let me take a video camera on a skateboard.

perhaps consider making the casing first,
it will assist in convincing them that you consider the camera's safety paramount, and it may show them how keen you are to make it work,,, Also consider that most household insurance covers a camera that has been "dropped" on the driveway - but only suggest this after they have still said no ,)

Jonty,... youve seen my camera case, have a close look at it next time. You can make one easy.
I think the Juice container is better though. Its gonna be the standard now!! :)
If you can flip the screen so it faces outward,.. you could even see it thru the window.
I also agree with Brad about the wide angle lens. I really need one. Its more forgiving about where you point it , and it does look faster. :)
