Lets get an ASRA newsletter out there promoting our sport/lifestyle, upcoming events, Bathurst 09!!!!! We have a nationwide team of distributors/asra members to drop it of to skate, surf, outdoor, music stores etc ...
Great minds...I've been thinking about doing this! Getting a mailing list together, and having a regular newsletter with stuff about upcoming events, news and gossip (ha!).
I'm thinking more along the lines of a hardcopy newsletter that can be posted direct to shops, distributors, media organisations etc. It wouldn't be targeted at regular users of the site as they're already here and they can already see everything that's going on. But if they want to receive it so they can pass it on to friends, their local shop, their stockbroker etc. then that's fine.
We could be all modern and do an email version as well. Apparently it's cheaper and easier than using envelopes and stamps.
could feature a different ASRA member each month or however often it is coming out. Why do you longboard all that kind of stuff. 'Hot topic', what is being talked about at the moment, otang wheels, kiros, new dervish graphics, beat the bastard, whatever.
Thats a really kewl idea Mic & Bugs.you could do a section on states each issue. First month get NSW to write up a quick "in the last month we have been skating this and doing that, joe blogs had an awesome crash and bought a new d-seed etc" Get them to take some photos and what not. Travel around the country visiting a different state each issue. After a year or so we would know about the knew additions to the crews in each state, we would see the progression in riding, the different types of hills being bombed as the skill levels increase. It would be like Neighbours but with awesome skating instead of pregnancy, divorce and sodomy.
I agree with Dani in that the whole of Australia's longboarding scene should be able to contribute, but at the same time the magazine/newsletter would be about attracting outsiders to our sport, giving the top riders the priority to do so.
when you get it sorted mic let us know, i work for a medium sized litho offsett printing co, will donate a few hours on a sat or after work to get it on paper. would be able to do it for cost of plates and stock at the most, will have to have a full page glyde add though........
As ASRA incorporates all Gravity disciplines, include Luge, Classic Luge, etc. Again, on a State by State by month? scenario. Tracks, the surf mag, does exactly that, and it works well. Profiles on everyone from organisers to riders, Pro Circuit section, as well as an overseas update every couple of issues. Pete's idea of a manufacturers section would be huge, a "Beginners Tips" section on setups, to help new crew coming into the sport/s could also work.
you could feature a different type of event each issue, for example, slalom one issue, luge the next, and you could have a big explanatory page saying what the discipline involves, when it started, big names etc
gear reviews would be SICK. each issue you could feature a different brand maybe? or something like that?
this definitely HAS to happen though it'd be a great way to advertise the sport, and it'd be really useful to see what's coming up and stuff.
