ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

hey,

Today I built my first kite for skateboarding and gave it a quick test.. pretty good when the wind blows strongly but I was not in a good area to try it just yet.. soon ill try skating along the beach or near the river to see how it goes..

anyone else done anything similar?

hells yeaa!!!!!

just a towel and a skateboard on a beach front. sure beats pushing

I once had a lesson with alex sanz, pro kite surfer. He was getting into kite skating and using the same mondo kites they use out in te water but on land and with a mountain board. It sure was fun but it wasn't the easiest thing. Figuring out the kite was the hardest bit. Then making yourself roll with it was also tricky. Something u need to do in a big open space and with the right winds.
Fun as hell, but not your ideal mode of transport
yeah  works good if you have something small and stiff ie. surfboard or bodyboard (perfect for when you are goin to the beach), cause it makes it easier to skate across the wind not just down wind.
i saw a few guys over in W.A windskating on a salt lake on what looked to be mountain /dirt boards or whatever they are. looked pretty fun!   i wonder how you'd go with getting big aerials.. haha

I dont know Paul, no helmet, no shoes... :)

There is a land windsurfing club down in Rockingham (at the salt lakes at the old end of the freeway).  I reckon that could be a good place to give it a go.

Oh the memories. When i was a mega grom (6yr old) i was into sailing little crappy boats round pittwater. these crapy boats had spinakers. Windy days we used to tie one end of the spinnaker to your abnkle and the 2 other ends to a poll which you held onto. This set up cained down the road in a breeze. When you lowered the pole to much you usually ran over the sail and was axed big time. You could go for a big jump off but usually go axed as we had it tyed round the ankle.Fun times.
Dont try this as it sucked everytime you made a mistake very unforgiving.
that is exactly where i saw the guys doing there thing!

I've tried kite surfing, and whilst it's fun, you get pretty drilled with those big kites. All well and good over sand or water, but you would really want to know what you were doing before trying on concrete....
