and a wrong observation indeed... how do u know her wheels slid out when she hit the 'inside pavement'? i take it you must have been there and seen it first hand and know how that corner works to fully understand this situation and give some form of opinion and blame someone for something... good job :) i think we should all listen to your opinions of racing more often...

Jacko, you're 100% right on what you've said about lines, ettiquete, etc....I couldn't agree more. You can't go through, or force a hole, if it doesn't exist. Again you're right on the point that the rider in front has the line, and the trailing rider/s have the responsibility to NOT hit the lead rider, or a DQ will ensue.

The only aspect on this particular crash was that when Dasha set her line, she was too tight, her weight was forward so that when her wheel hit the paved surface her back wheels slid out.

I also agree, if Bek was back, even 6 inches, this discussion wouldn't of happened, as Dasha's actions would of been more obvious.

Was just an observation.

sorry mate but u dont know what your talking about. Dasha was in front, there is only one line through that corner. try to dive inside there you WILL cause a crash... which is what happened. i hate to say it but your pretty wrong to make the call on that. the rider behind MUST know that diving inside so late will cause a crash. the only passing opportunities on that corner are BEFORE you enter the corner, or exit speed if someone scrubs out.

If your racing, and someone is trying to catch you, leave no room for them to pass. thats racing... If someone behind you tries to take a line thats not there, they fuck up. its been happening so much lately its not funny, which is why there is so much bitching and arguing at races. people just dont know how to handle shit properly with good etiquette. the most important part of racing is knowing when you are actually able to make passes, and utilise those moments. if you miss your opportunity, you lose. You cant just try take a line that doesnt exist for the sake of getting in front, thats how people crash, or even get hurt

Was a bad call against Bek, she should never have been DQ'd. Dasha blew her line, and when her wheels dipped into the little gutter her back wheels slid out, leaving Bek nowhere to go, except hit Dasha. Go frame by frame, from the 3rd to 6th second.

Insul 2011 - was it the weekend the downhill family died?

There was no angst or degredation in anything I said, Jacko, it was a situation that occurred, filmed, and an observation made on the footage which was available. Was a good learning scenario for those young crew who want to go and race.

I'm sorry you felt the need to be disrespectful and try and turn it into a shitfight.

Just not necessary, or worth it.

amen.
Looks to me like Bek may have clipped Dasha's board.  Can't tell though.

Looks to me like racing. We all get fucked over from doing dumb moves in races be it from our own actions or the ill minded of someone else. Its bound to happen as people think they can win they will try and take the oppertunity be it there or not.

Downhill is changing, Just admit it. Its now becoming a sport not a hobby.

Right on Merrick.

We all learn from mistakes, but some of you world class riders could give us less experienced riders some tips on the right and wrongs of the sport. Then Oz will really kick some ass!!

Knowing what happened here is very interesting, its good to get feedback from you guys.

:)

where is the love??? if you take out the ridder in front your gonna crash too then bradbury will win everytime..

a good lesson for the groms never give up

Racing is not about rules. Racing is about finding who is the fastest person, not the one who can use the rules best to their advantage. What is next, best dressed?

It is the classic takes two to fight. Jacko / Sakamoto have the rule book on their side regarding the person out front. Here is the problem, person out front thinks, I'm in the right, I can do anything to shut the gate, Rules say I have the right of way. From racing crashes this year shows that is not working anymore, as the skills level increases, the racing is tighter and closer, it is causing crashes. Which means the person out front, although they have the right of way and the rules on their side, LOSES. Who cares if you were in the right, you dont get your place back, you just get the hollow satisfaction of getting someone DQ'd or they place 4th and you 3rd. Not only are you risking your place in the race, you are risking injury and equipment damage. So the loss gets upgraded to loser.

It is not about who is right or wrong, just percentage racing. It is about winning the race without crashing.

Two riders in close racing, Bek is on Dasha's inside, both railing the corner, how is Bek suppose to slow down went Dasha cuts the corner. She is not behind her, she is sitting on the inside of her back wheels. I think you can interprete the video that Dasha clips the edge of the gutter. Looks like her front wheel clips the gutter and pops her board out. Maybe Bek had nowhere to go but hit Dasha's board. Only Bek can say what happened.

The frame before it looks like Beks front wheels are next to Dasha's back wheels, which would mean a big crash by both - if wheels touch. Next frame it is either Dasha's front wheel buried in the gutter or the tip of beks board clipping the back of Dashas board. Does not look like wheel contact because Bek stays on her board.

Jacko the rule book argument of I'm in front and have right of way is ridiculous. May as well just turn IGSA into a push race, best push off the line wins.

Person in front has to be the fastest, take the safest lines to secure a win. Skaters behind are making up time and taking risks to win.

I dont care if Dasha was entitled to cut the corner. You do that in traffic (go from outside to dive into a corner with someone tight on your inside), it is only going to end in a crash. Doesn't matter if she has the right of way, it was a kamikaze move.

You could argue that Dasha opened up the gate at the top of the hill to make Bek think she would have some space. Dasha sets up for the corner by carving to the outside appearing to give Bek room.

Think about it from Bek's perspective. There were a few ways Dasha could have taken the corner. How is Bek suppose to know what Dasha is going to do? If Bek had gone on the outside (not the inside) and Dasha did the same thing and move all the way to the outside of the track to cut Bek off and force a crash would everyone blame Dasha for the crash?

Trav's photos are up

I forgot to use them in his write up.
