why do you reckon it is male dominated? Because most guys seem pretty keen on helping the girls out.

Seriously, name one other (unisex) sport where, given the usual safety precautions, the probabaility of frequent minor injuries (bruising, abrasion, concussion) is very much higher, excluding that bungee jumping thing those villagers do with vines instead of bungee, active participation in bucks/hens nights, and jackass stunt re-enactments.

Hey Reg. Having skated for past 37 years & being a fathers of 2 girls who skateboard.
I have always thought highly of & encouraged girls who skate. It shows their ambitious, adventurous, have confidence in themselves & that their not intimidated by negative attitudes of others. Even more their enjoying the sensation of rolling,turning, gliding & sliding through space on a skateboard. Plus all the other great things that skating brings you.
Some of the things that deter people (male & female) from riding skateboards is the fear factor, risk of injury, physical ability & being criticised by other users.
It is also a fact that males are known to take mose risks in the activities they are involved in. This is a big factor in skateboarding having more male partisipants in the sport.
Then there are some males who feel threatened when there are females in their male dominated arena. This can stop many girls from skating. Negative vibes & overblown egos can turn you off anything in life. Hopefully that old way of thinking is on the way out.
As for the word 'dominate'. There are heaps of girls all over the world that skate better than alot of males. But I guess your talking numbers here ?
I think the more girls who get involved & enjoy skateboarding, the better of the sport will be in the future.
Who wants to hang out with a bunch of smelly males all the time anyway. Not me.

men have more testosterone and shit like that in their systems and so get way better feeling and are more addicted to adrelaline rushes you get from from playing dangerous sports i.e. longboarding, rugby, mountain bike
but that doesnt stop alot of girls
