ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

anyone just see on 9 news the swiss tourist who skated through one of the major highway tunnels in melbourne during peak hour? what a complete tool and thanks a lot for the negative press you dickhead. here is a link, he stacked a few times and was on a z flex, and he said he did it because it was the fastest way to get to his hotel and no signs said he couldn't. Must have been so close to receiving a Darwin award...

Who cares? media stories like this serve no purpose but to instill opnions in the audience, which in the case of the OP, it has done.
If he had skated it and not crashed and not been spotted, no one would ever know about it.

The radio announcers did not go over the top about it this morning before 9:30

They put it down to him being a real dickhead from another country.

However it would have been total outrage if a local was dumb enough to do that.

The deputy commissioner of cops seemed to be quite annoyed at the action, and praised the guy from the Fire brigade who took him to safety.

For those that want to waste 20 seconds of their lives!

plus in the eyes of the viewers he isn't a "longboarder" out to seek an adrenaline rush. all you get out of that story is that he's another stupid tourist. just so happens that he's on a "skateboard".

From the comments in the Herald.

haha next time a cop pulls you over just talk to him in a european accent, ask where the nearest hostel is and pretend you didn't know better
My favourite excuse would have to be "No hablo ingles", "i don't speak english" in spanish.

Apparently he is currently "remanded in custody", ie, he's in jail. They're saying he might be a bit of a nutter, which may or may not be true, but it seems a bit over the top for him to be in jail over this.

Today's SMH:  http://www.smh.com.au/victoria/psychiatric-tests-for-tunnel-skater-...

He was bailed then he broke his bail conditions on the first day so he was remanded in custody. His lawyer says he wants to use his notoriety to raise awareness of cancer. The cancer thing was only raised in court after he broke his bail conditions, I assume he just thought that up while he was waiting for the magistrate

So he got a $1000 fine to be paid to a road trauma foundation.

He had his skateboard confiscated and was placed on a 2 year good behaviour bond, and it was suggested to him that he go back home. So instead he's off to the NT and will leave Oz on June 29th via sydney.

Anyone who decides to tackle an 80k limited motorway tunnel on a cruiser board with no safety gear and then claim they didn't think it would be dangerous would have to be a few crayons short of a full set......
