Wedging

So I've converted a skateboard into a schlongboard by moving the trucks onto the kicks. It doesn't turn and after research I now understand that wedging decreases the turn and that I should dewedge my trucks ( which are 50*). But then I was looking at the Landyatz time machine and their wedges increase the turn. So now I'm confused is there a point where wedging decreases turn rather than increasing it?

wedging increases turn, dewedging increases it, just start at ur trucks for a while and it will come to you. check the randal truck guide too bro

OK mate heres the skinny. Consider this gospel.

Wedging does not work on RKP trucks well at all. It does work on conventional trucks. Shlongboards set ups work best with Indies or whatever and super soft bushings. If you want to persevere with the RKP trucks, dewedge them till they are as flat as you can get em.

 

Ignore the wierd landyachtz decks with wedging built in, Tom had some weird ideas about skateboard building...

Hrmmm motionboardshop recommends a low degree RKP truck on the timemachine as 50* is too high of a degree stoping compression of the bushing. So does that mean the wedging still works for 50* but its effect only works for a smaller wedging angle range than what a low degree truck can take? Just wanna make sure before I run out and buy conventional trucks.

i know for a fact that wedging works on both RKP and indie style trucks

Well I'm just gonna have to test this. Have 2 angled risers of 13* of dewedge (no mounting hardware yet) and also have 42 degree plates coming in I'll see what happens

I did but the motionboardshop video screwed with my head- the way they say it make me take it that it increases turn for lean (the timemachine wedge). Unless I heard wrong will watch it again

Wedging works on all trucks, regular and reverse kingpin. But the more you wedge a truck, the less leverage you have on the bushings, so you need softer and softer bushings as your wedging increases. If you wedge a 50 deg truck too much you'll reach a point where you don't have enough leverage on the bushings to get the truck to turn.

There's a sweet spot with trucks - as the wedging gets higher you get more turn, until it gets too high and you get less turn. Where the sweet spot is depends on the original angle of the truck, how soft the bushings are and how restrictive the bushing seat is.

50 deg trucks on schlongboard should be OK with super-soft bushings, but you might still want to dewedge them a bit so you can get some lean for your turn.

The Randal FAQ that James posted is a good guide for this stuff.

Yeah I have read it many times trying to work it out before and after starting this thread. But after going back to silverfish to have a look apparently you can only wedge randal 50's 10* before they become dead. I already dewedged them 5* but they were still dead thus I will dewedge them 7* more hopefully this will save me from buying more trucks >.>
