Racing Tip! the Art of Sandbagging... ie deliberatley hanging back, so you can take advantage of riders in front of you for a draft and pass. Use this method on hills with long straights. If you are out in front, you will get drafted. This is from the French Nationals 2009. Its a practice run, but the same tactic served me well in the real race. You can see Im a tad faster through the corners than the two guys in front, but I hang back until 1,40 where I see Koma gong for a pass. This is where I attack, taking advantage of the draft of two riders. My pass is faster than Koma's, meaning I have the extra speed to get me to the Chicane first, and across the line first. sandbagging, learn it.The temptation to burn through the corners faster than other riders wont always help.

That vimeo link doesn't seem to be the one you're talking about.

this the one?

good technique, but when you see the rider in front pass, you should always follow them through the pass, that way you use their draft to suck you by the other rider in front, and in turn pick up more acceleration to pass the rider who's draft your in.

When taking a corner aim for the apex. By hitting the apex of the turn and following out you are taking the straightest line possible and holding the most speed. This is the idea of predrifting. You slide before the corner and then go through the corner and come out with the most speed as compared to sliding through the corner and coming out going slower.

Watch this video from about 2:45 onwards to get some examples of it happening. You can see that if you hit it too fast you hit the hay bales and if you hit it slowly then you come through the corner and exit on the inside. The riders hitting the corners perfectly are generally coming out heaps close to the outside of the turn with heaps of speed.

also; sick video.

Yes Thanks Jacko! (I suck at internets)

Anyway, hope someone finds this racing tips thread what I started usefull. Sandbagging is a fine artform, I didnt follow Koma on his pass, as that would have put me on the wrong side of the road to get the racing line. Funny thing about Darnetal, is you end up taking terrible lines through the coners to be slow, so you can set it up to have riders infront of you to sandbag in the long straight. Theres always some big fat bloke who grins at you on the start line thinking he is gonna smoke you in the straight with is size, but my small size is a great advantage on a hill like that. Stay behind fatty and let him drag me down the hill till its time to pass. Know your strengths and weaknesses, learn how to use them.
