ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

I mentioned this briefly to some of you at the Outlaw Madness, that I would love to hold an Ultraskate event, that is a 24hour skate, usually to raise money and awareness for a worthy cause. Here is the site that usually organises it: http://pavedwave.org/

The next one is slotted for the weekend of 25th-26th September, which is pretty close, but far enough away for those interested to get ready.

I have been thinking about it and I thought that a good local loop would be from Burleigh to Broadbeach, as there is continual bike paths and bike lanes, over the distance of 9k's which makes for a good loop. This is the route:: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3946658

Now the interesting bit, or should I say controversial, is that as it is over 24 hours and about 1/3 of the above route is on the bike lane of a road, any night participants would technically be breaking the law. So, I thought why not make that the focus. I think that we, as skaters, should have equal rights and responsibilities as any other non motorized transport (mmm... bikes). ie: lights for visibility at night and helmets for protection. So, the worthy cause that I am thinking of is "Skating for Skate Awareness".

So what I envision is this: get as many people as you know on a board, blade, pair of skates, whatever... stick a helmet on their head, and lights on the helmet or person (for the night), and meet up at Burleigh point car park on the 25th September. At 9am we roll for 24 hours. If you can't do that amount, then turn up at any point for a roll. I would particularly like to see heaps of skaters for the night time - extravagantly lit up (glowsticks, helmet lights, portable chrissy decorations?). Maybe we could have some sort of prizes for the longest ride and the best lit :-) 9am Sunday finish then breaky barbie at Burleigh, maybe $1 sausage sanga like at the Outlaw madness?

I would still like to raise money for a charity maybe we can pass the hat around for that too.. any suggestions on a worthy cause? (and no.. your new Nemmy is not a worthy cause ;-P)

So there is my crazy idea. What do you all think?

we should do one, gold coast to brisbane. But it would be more of a skate treck, cause there are unskatable areas, and hills and all that along the way.

If you are up for a round two in the christmas holidays, I will attempt to make it then! Keep that knee well oiled!
Cheers Haggy, I just uploaded some random shots of the morning crew. No it was my back leg/ knee which was troubling me, but it seems a lot better now :-)

Odiwan and others - Congratulations! Big effort. Sounds like it was rewarding. 12 hours on board is a very solid effort.

Which knee did you have trouble with Odiwan? The knee you have on the board when pushing? Take care of that knee and live to skate again another day.

any photos? Again, rad effort. Hugely commendable!
I will be up for another adventure later definitely.. dunno bout brissy to goldy though... I will have to see what kind of skateable path lies inbetween...

Cheers! Great idea .. I am sure that you could probably find some nice paths that go longer or are in a loop down that way.

rock n roll guys,
im still up for an ultra skate in sydney if anyone is interested...
I biked it once, it's just between logan and beenliegh, and the 'no mans land' between beenligh and gold coast
I think the worst part would be the 'dugg dug, dugg dug, dugg dug' sound of all the bike track, and the little jolts you get each and every joint in pavement. Either way, I'm going to be biking it again these holidays for a bit of fun, and something to do, I will probably put something up on sunshine state speedboarding when I do it if anyone cares to join me!

I reckon we could do some kinda push race, like the Broadway Bomb, or even a mass ride like the Toronto Board Meeting.

Hey, there wasn't TOO many hills ;-P

Champion effort Odwin! you can't help injuries, especially over a LONG grinding time of skating.
well done, super stoked that you even bought this event to OZ!
When you say "no man's land" are you referring to the state of the roads and tracks, or that it is a sketchy area?

just a constant lack of bike path, and rocky road, with vast country side all around you, I don't know if I got my route wrong, but that's what I experienced, there might be a better way there, you'll have to look into it.

The whole trip is something like 74km, so it should take about 12 hours on a board, with breaks and all, took me 5 on my bike, and man I was tired!
looks like I am going to be on google Earth again >.< A while back I scoped out a route from Mt Gravatt to the city (using G earth) but I don't know what is between the Goldy and Mt gravatt. I will look into it...

there is a bike track all the way from city to mt gravatt, then from my knowledge, starts again in logan area, and continues a while, from there on, I might have made a wrong turn, you'll have to check, but there are chunks missing, where you have to use roads
