While travelling and documenting downhill skateboarding, I have taken many thousands of images. I love video about as much as I love pictures. So when I realized I could combine the two, I was excited to start this project.
In this video, I combine many images taken of internationally renowned downhill skateboarders at Maryhill Loops Rd in Washington with a timelapse run down one of California's greatest roads, GMR. For the filming of that sequence at dusk, I held the trigger of my camera down while riding a buttboard, a skateboard made for riding on your butt. The two riders are my good friends Billy Meiners and Robert James McKendry III.
I'm afraid, for me, there are a lot of skate videos and clips that just leave me with "another skate video" feel, but this; this was bloody good in its own right. The editing and use of stills and videos and the actual use of effects on the stills gave this a really different feel. The whole mashed up chaotic feel of the larger group of riders really came across.......that was all a bit arty for me!!! must have a lie down
too long and too gnar for you buddy... the video doesnt do it justice. I shredded two sets of wheels, wore through my jeans, padded shorts, underpands AND skin just sessioning that hill... extreme riders only
its p-swiss... gnar factor extreme. i skated that hill last time we were there n we did it in sections coz it was too gnar to go top to bottom... that was this time last year, how times have changed
