They would not be pumping! only for a little while resting. To go that fast they would have to push most of the way.

20km might work. the faster guys will do it in little over an hour. anything less than that isn't really a long distance race. damn should of organised it instead of the Pumpstation Outlaw, get everyone fighting fit for Newtons!

Will have a think about it, maybe during the Xmas holidays.. push race in the middle of summer.... aww yeah!

A push race is a great idea Trav I'm sure you would get people interested. But for 40ks you would need to train and be pretty fit and that might put some off (me). Maybe consider a shorter distance for starters 10 or 15 ks? Have some kind of prize money (10k might be hard to come up with) and I'm sure all sorts of groms and downhillers would turn up.

that is impressive to go that fast by pumping!
Haggy an my best average speed was 16-18km/h over 2 hours which was a pretty quick pace, but these guys would be going even faster than that. So to pump @ 30km/h (if my calculations are correct) is out of this world!

I would like to hold a 40km push race in Sydney, we have the location for it (40km length of cycleway, no traffic)
but I'm not sure how many people would be keen...

I have been following this event and it looks like it was a great success. They are having another on the west coast next year I think. Jeff from Brooklyn who won did so on a top mount LDP board (subsonic with bennett front and seismic rear), so a wild effort to win against pushers.
