it is funny how many downhillers think it all started with Niker and the X-Games,,,,,,,, that is so funny. It started way back in 1969 and John Hutson was the unbeatable king with 61 race wins in a row until I beat him in 1981 at Laguna Seca. He beat me once after that and then I never lost until I retired in 1997. Out of the 314 in a row I would say at least 40 wins were luck. Like one race Biker had his Dregs crew take me out at the start, I fell, did a couple of flips in the dirt, somehow landed running and jumped on my board and pushed like hell. Got in the tightest tuck I could and a half mile later I saw Biker standing up with his arms in the air, cheering, thinking he had finally beat him. I zeroed in on his big wind drag, drafted him and snuck by winning by about 2 feet. I'm sure he felt like a dumbass,,,,lol. Anyway, I would call that win luck, but I still won. He had shirts back then that said "Hickey, When In Doubt, Take Him Out"
Too bad he never did beat me.
