Never seen one of them before. Is it to pass around going down a hill or does it mount on something. An old piece of plastic drain pipe with a handle taped to it works ok as well.

You can pass it round if you want, the reason for the plate on the bottom is to keep the camera off the ground at any angle. The timber that the base plate is attached to is AA grade Marine ply, the baseplate is sort of dropped through the ply then attached with screws and poltuerethane glue, the structure itslef is 20mm conduit with Ts and Ls, looks sketch, works great, the tape is there for grip and wear.
