the only reason everyone is saying that this is ok is because jacko says its ok. skitching is dangerous whether or not you are wearing a helmet and not just that, a whole BUNCH of guys holding onto the back of a bus makes you look like a gang of hooligans which doesnt help with the skater image. way to jump on the fucking bandwagon. i dont think you guys would be calling it "good clean fun" if jacko hadnt said it was ok. but what ever, do what you like. its all good clean fun

you can also cut corners and drift to the wrong side of the road if you have a helmet, helmets make you invincible!

I'm all for creative and fun longboarding, just be safe and encourage others to be safe.
there's no point pushing the helmet point if you encourage this kind of thing. this is a public forum and people look up to you dude, if you go and say it's cool to skitch a bus, how are you gonna feel if some kid does it and gets hurt?
i'm speaking from experience here, i was skitching, had an accident and dislocated my shoulder, that's the worst skate related injury i've had, it was dumb, wont do it again, point is accidents do happen, and skitching ones seem to be particularly nasty.
safety should come before a "skate or die" attitude, there's no point protecting your head if you don't use it

the point i was trying to bring across is i dont think theres anything wrong with this photo... its like saying to everyone they shouldnt bomb hills coz its dangerous... if someone were to fall here in this situation it would be the same as falling without skitching on a bus. they would hit the ground and either be hurt or not be hurt. if you were skating along and fell off your board you would either be hurt or not be hurt. like u said accidents DO happen and they are gonna happen weather your walking down the street or bombing a hill at 100ks or (in this case) hangin on to the back of the bus. its all risk taking and its all in what we do. if you feel there is too much risk to bomb a hill at high speed then thats cool, same as if you feel there is too much risk hangin on to the back of a vehicle to tow you back up to the top of the hill so u can bomb it again then thats cool too. im not telling people to go out and do this all i was saying was this isnt a 'media' thing and people arent going to single out this one photo here and start cracking down on longboarding or any type of skateboarding because this is 'bad for the image' and all that crap which was the first negative statement posted up here.

so henry i ask you, what is 'safe and good for our sport?' what sort of images should people be posting up to ultimately change the 'publics' perception of skating? should we stop being creative and pushing limits and stick to the safe roads and stay on footpaths and post up pictures and videos of us crusing down the bike lane all chilled like doing 20k's with big massive grins on our faces because the media will look at it and go "oh yes theres something nice and quaint and i think more people should be involved in that"? should we take down all the pictures and videos of people bombing hills and riding marked roads with speed limits of 50 and over because its illegal and is potentially 'bad media for the sport'?
just remember one thing: this is skateboarding... skateboarding is all about breaking the rules. if skateboarders didnt break the rules there would be no such thing as skateboarding! there will always be publicity in EVERYTHING in the world, good and bad, and such a case with skateboarding these days it can sometimes be bad but i will tell u one thing, bad publicity will DEFIANTLY not halt the growth of the sport, especially something as minor as this one photo

My point is that, While bombing hills is dangerous it "may" be against the law. Last time i checked skitching "is" against the law. Yeah, yeah we've all skitched at some point but that doesn't make it right. If cops see one guy skitching they might let it go or atleast let him off with a slap on the wrist. Cops see lots of or a large group of guys skitching, then next time they see people skitching they'll be more inclined to come down heavy on them. Don't give cops any more ammo then they already have against us. Finally if the bus is going up the hill, pay to get on it, or are you all unemployed?

I've gotta say I agree with Henry on almost all of his points, I'm not down with this pic. Being creative is using pieces of architecture and landscape to skate on it is not grabbing onto a bus with 5 dudes for fun and kicks. Nothing would piss off the regular joe more than seeing this, to the regular person this makes us look like out of control urban menaces. The difference between bombing hills at 100kms and doing this is that we are trying to convince the public that racing is a sport. We wouldn't get out of first base trying to convince the public that this is ok. For those of you out there that don't have to do this and just skate off the back of other peoples work maybe you don't understand how difficult it is to convince the public that we are not hooligans, get councils to close rds, get government to give us money. Try speaking to a jouno on live radio about the safety of skateboarding when she is holding this pic and asking for comment. If you want to group skitch a bus then go ahead but don't think that by posting a pic on a public website you are doing a service to anybody but your own need to let everybody know what you did cause you think its cool.

On a safety point it may feel cool to some people or young groms to skitch a bus just like it feels cool to smoke a darb for the first time or to break a shot window or punch some little kid in the head. Why does it fell cool? cause its kinda stupid and dangerous and its a big fuck off to the establishment and it take no real balls or effort to do it. But make no mistake this is not skating a gnar hill at 100km/h, this is not grabbing off 15 stairs or pulling standup switch at 50km/h it takes little to no skill it just takes a small brain. Putting a picture up of it is just trying to get reinforcement that your useless little act can get some attention.

The key to being extreme is using your lives for the times that you need it.
Lesson 1 dont die or hurt youself driving to a DH session.
Lesson 2 dont die or hurt youself skitching to the top of the hill.
Lesson 3 don't do things that are not worth taking the risk on.

Being extreme is about playing the percentage game. Stitching a bus with six guys is not extreme but carries about the same risk. Similar to cutting a blind corner you can't see whats going to happen and there is no exit strategy if the worst happens, a bit like cutting your wrist just to see what happens, maybe they bleed to death maybe they don't but they get a buz from doing it. Some people like to cut their wrist cause it gives them a buz not because it takes balls to do it but because there is a chance they could loose the percentage game and bleed out. Its the same buz you get punching a little kid in the head, maybe he falls on the ground crying or maybe he pulls out a knife and cuts your guts out. You think you have it worked out cause he's just a little kid but maybe you die just for the buz of punching somebody smaller than you.

The idea of percentages is that you minimize your chances of the fuckup by saving up the points you have for when you need it. If you are going to get seriously hurt or die from doing something you want to make sure that its worth it and you want to squeeze as much out of it as possible.

Think like this: You have 100 chances to do whatever want to do and 1 chance of dieing. Your choice is do you skate 99 gnarly hills and die once or do you start using those 99 chances on less worthy tasks like:
- drinking diluted bleach = 3 chances gone (9 out of 10 you spew and are sick for a week 1 in 10 you instantly drop dead
- Picking a fight with a bouncer = 2 chances gone ( 1 in 10 you get one good shot in and run 8 in 10 he gets to you before you run breaks you jaw you fall on the rd crack you head and die
- DH skating without a fullface = 10 chances gone ( maybe you crash maybe you dont 7 in 10 when you crash you dont recover)
- playing dodge ball with cars = 5 chances gone ( 5 in 10 nothing happens 5 in 10 you hit grave

haha half my prior post got cut out due to word limit. A cop might let you go with a chat for DH skating, a cop would never let you go for skitching. Why, because skating is legal on many rds and in many places. Skitching is always illegal and is viewed in the same way as shoplifters and vandals, media sees it that way, cops see it that way and the public also sees it that way. 8 out of 10 punters including your regular cops that see you DH think you are crazy but cool the other 2 ring the cops or bust your ass. Every punter thinks that group skitching a bus is stupid and you wont just wear a $54 fine you could get done for a series of offenses that land you in court and when the court journo is looking for something to write about that is more interesting then the regular domestic cases and drunk drivers you can bet your life that this will be it and the story will end up much bigger than the offense and than they ring Me or Haggy or Bugs for comment. And we try to convince them that just because people post stupid pics on our website and people post comments thinking its cool that the vast majority of us do not do these things and the journo says bullshit and the public says the same.

I dont agree with doing it. I dont agree with fighting about it.

Key members of ASRA are against it but the Aussie champ is "DEFIANTLY" for it.

So for the Groms- DONT do it!

For Jackson- Go for it!!!.... Skate or Die!

hahaha how out of proportion did this blow up to?
did anyone mention that this bus does about 3km/h back up this tiny closed off street? can't really compare this to skitching off a bus / car on main rd.

Shut up and Skate!
