Hell yeah

Welcome to the richest leg of downhill racing the world has ever seen. During 10 days in April the worlds best will converge on Australian shores for the start of the IGSA World Tour. Riders from North America, Europe, Africa, South America and Asia will face off against the best riders in Australia for $30,000 in cash and the title of worlds best.

It will be 10 days to examine the soul of a rider and determine if they can come out on top and take the title and the big dollars, or crash in a heap.

Welcome to the Australian World Cup leg, the richest, the biggest, and the craziest show on earth.

whos frank williams?

GET PITTED< gonna be a rad weekend, know i wont win, neither will the wife but stoken out with the DH family is what its all about. would i prefer more standup prize money , fuck yeah, more riders, more cash, bigger the prize. seems logic to me, if your only getting anough riders to fill a small bracket then where do you think the cash is oing to come from frank. maybe stand up?

maybe you can quote me again... i didnt get it the first two times...

maybe you can also quote how the number of luge riders are rising all around the globe, and tell me about all the luge races organised by luge riders with luge sponsorships packages for luge riders?

ive said it before. if you dont like it dont come. you can quote me on that one too if you life

There are plenty of up and coming lugers in their early to mid twenties, both male and female, you just choose to ignore that fact.

Again, I will requote you, "You want more people to turn up? More tallent on the hill? Pay a good prize purse. Getting another set of trucks or a deck doesn't cover the cost of a plane ticket..."

The numbers are low because there is no incentive and the lugers are told they don't matter.  However, look at the registration numbers for BtB.  Last I heard there are 40 lugers signed up.  They know that it's a charity free ride and there's no money to be had, but they're also appreciated as athletes and contributors.

theres a big difference here. i'll put it simply. Skateboarding is not luging...

There are many many skateboarders. Barely any lugers. There are no up-and-comer luge riders that are young and paving the way for the next gen to pick it up. The numbers are low. Like many people have said here before there are a group of skateboarders who do this for the money indeed and expect that if an event wants good skateboarders to come to race then they can give a good prize purse. this is what happens. if the even doesnt care if there are good skaters there or not then they wont see the need to entice riders to come to this event, it will draw the everyday person and those who cant do it for a job and just enjoy it every single day.
Now put that into perspective for these events. Skateboarding is getting paid money. They want big names to come. Same with the juniors and the ladies. They want that division to grow and prosper as they are hugely on the rise. Now where does that leave the other catagories? Luge is getting paid a certain amount of prize money, which is something, and it is enticing some riders from around the globe and Australia to come and compete dispite their low numbers. Then where does that leave but-board? obviously the event will run anyway with many big names spread accross a bunch of different catagories, obviously these events dont see the need (or have the funding) to dish out more cash.

now, like its been said before, stop the winging, get over here and just enjoy yourself? it is what it is, no point in carrying on...

Jacko, I was pointed to this comment you made in another thread, "You want more people to turn up? More tallent on the hill? Pay a good prize purse. Getting another set of trucks or a deck doesn't cover the cost of a plane ticket..."

You were spot on with that comment, albeit I think the event was actually for charity.  No prize definitely doesn't cover the cost of anything.

Now you're asking people who've spent almost $300 to attend (plus in my case thousands to travel) to give more money to get another competitor to race?  Why not do something generous and foot the bill yourself if you really believe he should be racing?

The calculations in your first sentence are spot on, but the rest are off.  If divided equally between two disciplines ($1,600/2=$800) it would be $800 for each discipline, which would be something like 1st = $400, 2nd = $250, 3rd = $150.  Again, providing an equal split between the two classes.

the classic butt-luge event has no prize money. quit winging and get stoked. if you wanna win prize money, ride your luge (or a skateboard) and you have a better chance of winning more.

now shut up and get stoked for a rad hill.
