Welcome to the richest leg of downhill racing the world has ever seen. During 10 days in April the worlds best will converge on Australian shores for the start of the IGSA World Tour. Riders from North America, Europe, Africa, South America and Asia will face off against the best riders in Australia for $30,000 in cash and the title of worlds best.
It will be 10 days to examine the soul of a rider and determine if they can come out on top and take the title and the big dollars, or crash in a heap.
Welcome to the Australian World Cup leg, the richest, the biggest, and the craziest show on earth.

Dani, the total prize purse for Street Luge at Mt. Kiera is $1,600 and at Newtons $2,700. I would think this would be more than enough to split between the two classes.
Benbro: I have been giving that a lot of thought. I will be organizing events in the future (maybe or maybe not IGSA events).
That is also an option.
maybe frank could organise his own world cup,.and allocate prize money to his chosen disiplines,..or he could quit complaining and get stoked like EVERYONE else.
Not to many wheels at Newtons, not many at Kiera either I wouldn't think. Maybe 3 or 4 sets max for each one.
That would be cool. I meant the prize pool for Newtons and Kiera though, pass a hat around there. How much is the luge money? Is it consistent with the stand up prizes? Maybe there isn't enough to split? I dunno, I haven't looked i have just seen the figure for the pool.
I plan on organizing an outlaw series over here under a similar concept and would be willing to put $10 into a pool for classic. But what I really don't get is that the money for luge has already been earmarked, why not just divide it up between the two luge classes? It's not like Classic Luge is much different, just more strict.
Classic luge (and street luge for that matter) use skateboarding gear. Most classic luge deck manufacturers, such as Five Mile Longboards and SubSonic also manufacture longboards. I don't know how many sets of wheels stand up guys use up in a race weekend, but I use quite a few on my classic luge.
Of all the groms I know going to either events, I don't think that a lack of prize money would deter any of them. They just wanna ride with Scoot, haha!
Perhaps if there was a 10,000 dollar prize for just stand up opens and nothing for groms or ladies then that might prick my ear since there is plenty to go around. If there isn't enough money though then there isn't enough money. If some butt board supporters or companies step up and throw some prize money in the that's awesome! If they don't well then they don't.
Hows this for an idea, and I know rego is expensive anyway so it might not float so well but worth a shot. What if all the buttboarders and lugers went outlaw style and either threw 10 bucks each in hat or paid 10 bucks extra rego (whichever works) and made a prize pool out of that. Since skateboarding has lot's of companies to help with our prize money but not so much with buttboarding then maybe help out your bro's who make podium. I'll chuck 10 dollars in the post when I'm over there.
I lie! China bomb in Adelaide. Leigh, Bow and myself versus 30 odd kids. I must admit, that was for the cash :P
BtB is a charity freeride, a completely different event and structure (which I'm also attending).
What if there was only money for Open Downhill but none for Junior or Women's? Would that change your opinion?
My comment about the 40% was a joke. I don't really care what they do with the luge money.
Interesting topic though, maybe I am the only one who has never entered a race with a ''if I win I could get some cash attitude''. Might have just never noticed it before. Though BTB has no prize money (being a freeride) and as I said, the Euro races have no prize money either yet they all fill up every time. Of course the words ''worlds biggest prize pool'' will attract riders that that know that they have a really good chance of winning such as Kevin Reimer and the likes and I suppose if your spending the money to fly from overseas then extra cash is nice. I'm flying from Finland though for Kiera and I believe my chances of winning Kiera or even making 2nd or 3rd are VERY slim. I'm going for the company and the closed road and to catch up with bro's again. That just might be me though, and anyone who has ever registered fro a race in Europe, including Dr.Serek. Don't get me wrong, if money for butt board is there that's rad, but if it isn't I don't see the issue.
That wasn't meant to sound condescending or rude, sorry if it did.
