ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

I thought I would add a discussion purely for our build pics.

Ok well here is our first build. Its a dropthrough freeride with a wheelbase of 31.5 inchs. Its 10 inchs at it is widest and 9 in the middle. Made from 4 3mm plys with 6oz plain weave glass on top and a fabric graphic on the bottom.

Lets just say this deck did not entirely go to plan. It all started out ok but not having much experience with fibreglass and finishing let us down in the end. We didn't have a deep enough epoxy depth on our fabric graphic and as a result we sanded in to the cotton, making it look shit.

Not to worry the board itself is mega stiff with a gnarly concave (19mm) and feel great to ride. We
learnt heaps on this build and the next on will be much better. Next one will be a carvy type of deck with some nice camber and snappy flex

Feel free to give us any tips or share your thoughts
cheers stevo

I did think of that, the issue of the two layers meeting and different concave top and bottom, but it was my first go and i thought i was being a little adventurous with the double concave etc so i tried it like that. Obviously in the last reply i was asking marine ply OR bunnings ply??

Nice work Adam! Looks awesome!

I have had trouble though when pressing in two goes like you are. What happens is the top ply shape of the 1st press is not exactly the same as the botom ply of the 2nd and when you glue them together they don't always meet no matter how much force you put on the press.

This was on a drop deck with some gnarly bends so hopefully you'll be ok. I pressed the same drop deck in one go and it worked heaps better.

Have you got ant other shots to show the concave/drop a bit better?
Ok two more Fat pigeons are done. The first is a downhill drop deck. Specs are 112 x 25cm. 50mm drop. 75 cm usable platform with 5 degree wedge in the front and 5 dewedge in the back. This is a really long deck, I made it for myself as my evo is just too short for me. Still not happy with the finish but hope to iron out these probs soon. oh yeah carbon top and bottom

The second is a symetrical freeride. Specs are 100cm x 24 cm with a platform of 74cm. This deck was designes specifically for use with hybrid indy's. this allows for a much longer platform without wheelbite. carbon on the bottom glass on top

I need to trim the nose and tail and sand te ebottom of the deck. see my page for more pics
