for slalom people do it for moar grip at the back and moar *speed* at the front. theoretically harder wheels roll faster so split duros give them that extra edge. or they like many colors :):)
You're more likely to see a harder duro in the front for a faster roll speed and lower at the back for more grip through corners.

its mostly for slalom to stop the tail from drifting, all the weight is on the front foot to hold grip and because the front truck turns a lot you can run the harder duro without loss of traction.

doing it for downhill is kinda different, the idea is the same that your tail will hold more traction but its a desired choice, personally i like the feeling of all 4 wheels holding the same amount of traction as you should be having your weight centred, and since i have both trucks turning at the same angle you get different wear patterns on different parts of your wheels depending on how you turn/drift/slide

yep what they said but you don't see it too often anymore outside of slalom, i run lime zigs for rear and lemon up front. I couldn't tell you if running all lime would make any difference though, i'm slow as hell and I am more worried about traction than top speed at this point in time!
