ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

Near my house there is a plan to put a disability access path through some bushland which locals are objecting too. It will be 1 in 20 gradiant 1 metre wide and is designed like a zig zag. You will agree no much good to skateboarders of any type really.

But one of the argurments the locals have come up with is that the path will attract skateboarders! It's kind of like the general public equate skateboarders to cane toads or indian minor birds but leaves alone bikes, joggers and other deviant hellraisers. The old fart who wanted me to sign his petition said they would be a risk to old people ( I guess like him!).

So please do you bit for the future or skateboarding today and take out the next old fart who gets in your way, especially if he's carrying a clipboard!

Whew I feel better now....

Bugs - that's a great article on the "urban pathology" of skateboarding you posted up a link to. It's writer, Ocean Howell, was a rad skater and a very creative artist as well from memory... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Th9UCl53EgY
Agreed to the footpath thing, took a GFH pug to Melbourne a couple of weeks ago. Was perfect for crowded footpaths. Small enough to carry through the crowd without smashing ankles, but still capable of dropping it and rolling onto the next intersection when it's clear. Sometimes using the road edge when the crowd was too thick. Put retro wheels on it at purchase and they managed to get over the tram tracks as well.

From the looks i was getting from local skaters you'd think they'd never seen a mini board before, but then again i couldn't find a skate shop in the CBD that wasn't almost exclusively dedicated to new school park decks. Some had long completes but didn't stock parts or accessories.

Took the pug out again at night when the footpaths were clear and it was mini carving heaven. Respect.
Skateboarders as criminals on walkways\footpaths\bikeways, here in DBay, they've fixed that by putting two 2cm-3cm gaps every 2 meters in all types of paths here, the problem with the gaps is that when you hit them your wheels go into them. I don't like riding along them because I imagine your wheels bobbing up and down is no good for your trucks especially when you hit one gap ever meter.

Here, I think also the cops must have pics of 'Skateboards to look out For' because when I used to ride my double-kicker 'winger' skateboard up streets they never used to bother me, but now every time I take my Z-Flex cruiser out for an spin, they always come up the street and take their time looking arround. I think they are looking for Slalom races or something, IDK, its got me puzzled anyways.

"I like skateboarding, because when you do an 180 turn in an 2 meter space, it feels like your surfing the pavement, I have yet to find something else which feels that unique!"
