ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

Hey, I recently bought a sector 9 ghost tree, and had to rush off to mount buller after buying it, and I read a review on silverfish about it, and apparently it's wheels are bad for sliding and the trucks are also not very good. I'm a little confused because I'm getting mixed messages, so to anyone who has ridden one of these, are the wheels bad for sliding or is it just a matter of breaking them in? And also if there is something bad about the trucks, what is it?

mate in my eyes theres two types of sector 9 boards theres the fucking amazing dh boards like the brandy and that then theres the poser longboards the cruiser ones and thats the ghost tree its a cruiser the trucks and wheels are for cruising the wheels should be fine to slide on wont be the best but will still slide but the trucks not so mutch your better off buying some 50 cals for $70 from the hop shop but thats just me, you should be able slide on it enyway.

if the trucks are gullwings they are heaps good trucks nothing wrong with them, maybe get some new bushings in em. i have ridden the wheels on them and they are heaps good one broken in so there is nothing wrong with it.

yeah if there gullwings there heaps good but i dont thing they come stock with them

All Sector 9 boards come with Gullwings as Sector 9 owns Gullwing now. Ride it, Love it, Trash it it's a skateboard and you can slide anything if you try hard enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure what it is that makes people bag out S9. They make awesome boards for the money. Their boards work, they back them up with real warantee and they have got a huge number of people into this great sport. It seems to me that as soon as a company gets good at what they do there will suddenly be a heap of crew saying how shit they are (whether they are or not). Sector 9 have been in this sport from the very beginning of the modern longboard renaissance and should be praised for sticking out through the VERY lean years.

My "old man" rant over, return to normal programming. Nothing to see here, nothing at all!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, they are gullwings, just wondering if what I've bought was actually a good idea or not

i hope you dont mean me i love the S9 boards jacko reccomended me the 2012 brandy so i bought one possibly the best choise i've ever made i love them

OOH MY GOD, I can see me in 18 years in that comment, gotta love Ado;^)

board is a great board, its not designed for all the hectic fast downhill skils and racing as the other boards are designed for.

this one is made for your cruising/carving pleasures. like everyone here has already said its not the top of the line for busting out big skids (because of deck shape and wheel option) but its still possible! usually its going to come with pretty grippy wheels but get the shine off them and they will slide.
sector make great products but the one you have got probably wont match the 'standards' of todays riding. everyone wants to instantly be able to pull 100m stand up slide when they get their board first thing. you just have to know what style its suited to. doesnt mean its a crap board and has crap components, yo u actually have a pretty rad board, its just more fun to pump and carve that thing down a hill, grip in your turns and use the slight flex to power-arc your slashes than it would be to go fast and line up one big stupid skid and flatspot your wheels and claim it as a 'trick'

So, if I want an all round board it would be a good idea to get something else?

Go buy a scooter
