ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

Hi everybody,

I've had a cheap $150 Vault cruiser 34" for about a month or so now. I have ridden just after/during it was raining and didn't wipe my board down. The trucks are now rusted somewhat and the rubber right around the bolt/nut is broken and looks a year old... Will this affect the board a lot and it's performance? Also, will the rust affect it? I'm sorry that I can't explain in more depth but I don't know what it's called.

Thanks!

are you talking about the bushing? also pics with arrows please! dunno bout the others but i cant understand what you're saying atm
Vault bushing are shit, Get yourself venoms or khiros. I sold both my vault boards and from memory they look like dodgy skateboard bushings, pretty sure they are so shit they actually melted onto my friend trucks

My friends vault did that riding it in the dry. BTW I heard vault bushings are 93a or something

Do whay my mate did with his vault cruiser. Leave it under a pile of crap in your room and buy a Landyachtz drop carve. But that may not be an option... cracked bushings will effect the performance. Put new bushings in. As for the rust, for now it shouldn't cause you much trouble but by the time its an issue you should have saved the money to get that dream board you've been wanting...
Vaults aren't even that bad.
I have a friend in grade 10 who can do more and better slides on his vault board than the rest of his grade do on $400 Landyachtz and Rayne setups.

Just change your bushings.
i suppose bushings are rubber rings...

listen to the others, get new bushings

Nuts - www.hopkin.com.au/tracker-axle-nuts

Bolts - www.hopkin.com.au/randal-titanium-race-kingpins-2.75

Are you talking about the plastic ring inside the nuts? They're called nylocks, they're made of nylon, and their purpose is to try and lock the nut to stop it from loosening by itself. Nuts still work without nylocks, but be careful they're not loosening themselves from general riding.

Bushings are the red things on these - www.hopkin.com.au/product.php?productid=168865&cat=257&page=1

If these are stuffed, replace them. New bushings will blow your mind. Throw down $30 and treat yourself to some good bushings. They're worth it.

If none of these things are the worn out rubber on your bolt/nut, you've got bigger problems.

Hey man, sounds like the kingpin may have got a bit of surface rust, which has also covered your bushings a bit. Nothing to worry about at all. Get some new bushings if you want. You could take everything apart and give it a bit of a clean up. A bit of rust on the kingpin wont do any harm. Do you have the vault 50 degree trucks or the indy style? Cos the Vault 50 degree trucks come with AMAZING bushings, like soft Venoms. The Vault indy style trucks come with hard bushings, wich is not so great for a longboard set up.

Anyway, hope this helps. Have fun.

Thanks guys. I don't think I was talking about bushings - it sounded more like what Finn was talking about with nylocks. Do any of you have any suggestions for my next board?
They melted on your friends trucks - HAHAHA!

Yep, Vault gear will ride well enough, especially if you're a novice, but is most let down by the bushings.

For your next board go to the sticky thread in the Gear section and read through it. The best thing is to get something that will handle any speed - i.e. a downhill board - so that when you have built your skills up you won't need to upgrade yet again.

Go check out the Fat Pigeon boards (e.g. the freeride) or the Glydes or go to Hopkin or a similar shop and get advice in person. Keep the vault as a sidewalk cruiser.
