what the hell is with otang having aluminium cores....they claim that it will improve the wheel so much..but i reckon that it will encourage friction and over heating of bearings

Metal cored wheels were shit in the 70s, shit in the 80s, shit in the 90s, shit ten years ago, and surprise surprise.. Still shit. Amazing! otangs big coup for 2011... metal cored wheels. Fuck knows what made them go for that one. If I was employed by loaded/otang, I would be hitting the mini scooter market, cos thats where the money is, not a few kids with rich parents, that buy little Johnny what ever he reads on the internets...

ive ridden the metal core wheels. they are epic. all you guys dribbling right now dont know much about wheels i would say, or have had enough practice or done enough testing on them to know the difference. The first initial slide on a set with metal cores is much smoother than would could imagine. the roll speed does seem to be much greater for acceleration and there was a great difference between that of a normal core. i've been using these wheels for a few months now, i kept a set clean (no sliding, pure grip wheel) for as long as i could to notice the wear pattern on the wheel itself from usage but no sliding, and it was money all the way to the point i broke them in for some high speed slides, and they still felt epic.

after a solid two days of hard shredding in adelaide hills, and if anyone has skated with me in adelaide hills they would tell you it would involve an immense amount of high speed sideways action, they had kept a better shape and a more even ware than that of a normal cored in heat. There was a bit more predictable grip once they wore down to shit.

Overall the improvements in the performance were noticeable, but only fractionally. These wheels are designed for racing in mind i would imagine. Its hard to justify dishing out $140 for a set of wheels when your going to be destroying them anyway, but if you want that extra edge in a race, or want something to perform just a little bit better than the normal product, these would be the wheels.

The firmer the core, the more even the wear. Its just a shame the production costs are high. Orangatang have done a limited run of their wheels to put their toes in the water for the customers. Other companies have made metal core wheels, such as landyachtz and love yo mothers

That sounds legit.
I guess its a question of whether a set of aluminium core wheels are worth two normal sets.

Unless they are then the normal sets would seem the way to go.

All wheels were shit in the 70s, 80s and 90s in comparison to wheels now, metal core or otherwise.
