ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

We're palnning a freeride weekend on Bruce rd. in Tongariro National park NZ in early Dec. if anyone is interested, the aim is to make it a charity freeride weekend like BTB. If you're interested or have any suggestions please speak up as i've never done this before. Wondering about things like costs for closing rds, cost for having StJohns ambos there. And getting some sponsorship.
We expect top speeds in the range of 85-95kph. for stand up, luge could be much higher.
cheers

hey cheers Lance def keep that in mind. If anyone else knows any tricks to getting an event happening please keep'm comin. Can some one point me to the head of BTB needto pick his brain.
that road looks sweet I'm there.
I could point you the head, but there are really two people who you should talk to.

Michaela - she organised the road closure and maintained the council and prostate cancer foundation relations.
Ado - He organised a lot of the riding related equipment.

Some things to give you a hand:
You need to work out which council the road is in.
You need to work out what the road is mainly used for, and if you close it what will you upset.

Also check with the local or national weather bureau, see the weather conditions for date you aim for over the last couple of years, this will help you determine if the weather has a better chance of being being sunny.

You will need to assess how many bails you will approximately need. If you're only running a freeride then you don't have to bail as heavily as a race. Definately bail your armco, any drop offs, sign posts. Drop offs could also have a safety mesh to try and 'catch' those who went over the top of the bails.

You will need a list of what you will potentially need:
Transport, toilets, food, shelter, radios, hay bails, medical equipment, chairs & tables, volunteers, ect.
You will need to pick a charity, it is going to be a charity event.
You will need a name for your event.

So then you can get a proposal together for when you approach potential sponsors.
Most importantly you might not be able to do this by yourself, talk to some mates, and form a group.

I'm all keen for more events around Australia and New Zealand.
So please don't let all this scare you, you've got roughly 6 months to concrete stuff into place, which is a bit more than what we had to organise BTB in.
get beer! everyone will come if theres beer!
