I was wondering whats the big difference that leathers do going say 60-70kmph compared to jeans, kneepads, leather jacket, elbow-pads?
And is there really a level of longboarding where u need them? can u even get them when you are just starting? or should u really wait??

Leather = tougher than cotton and nylon. Meaning that it will provide you with a greater level of protection. Jeans don't last long when sliding on asfault at 60+kph so after a few seconds you're wearing away skin. Leather will hold up for much much longer, thusly you don't loose skin. Pads are great if you can land on them (i.e low speed bails) but at higher speeds this can be hard to do (in my experience). There is no reason you couldn't get them when you're starting out, there is no such thing as too safe. But they aren't overly necisary untill you start getting to faster speeds.
Alright cheers mate.
