Kochie doesnt like it.

A brief thing on sunrise about someone named Mat doin downhill and filming it and putting on the net, ...etc...Kochie described him as a "brickhead"

 

Will probably show up on 7 through the day...story was definately "look at this dickhead, someone's gotta stop him killing somebody" kind of story.

Everyones raising some valid points,

perhaps it is a case of ignorance as apposed to mellicious
and if its the case where channel 7 DID pull a number on this guy then fuck it....

turn it around on them.... get some SYD skaters down there or to contact Channel 7 and ask for the opportunity to 'enlighten' the lowest common denominator that hangs on koch's every word....

Turn this around on itself and use it to promote the safety and positive aspects of the sport we love...
just because that 000.01 % of skaters out there get bad publicity or a bad rep DOES NOT mean we are all like that....

we could always just contact A Current Affair....anything for a Channel 7 Vs Channel 9 stand off ;)

My original post was purely observational (at 6.30a.m). I wasnt flaming.

 

 I like other older ASRA heads remember that Sunrise promoted the first Newton's by sending Grant Denyer down Conrod on a street luge.

 

Anyway, I was actually dissappointed that Sarah Cumming wasnt presenting the news this morning.

Poor Mat, a true victim of a slow news week.

Not only did 7 do him over, so did some of us.(sorry Mat)

Unfortunately "we" probably need to express some level of public indignation for his actions, for the good of the sport.

Let's hope the story dies quickly like that last one, and the cops don't charge him on the basis of the video evidence.

 

I wonder if we should all have a script ready for when any of us gets cornered by a Journo, so that we can "stay on message" like Julia Gillard does, and not give them anything to go on. 

 

Subject to expert advice (Bugs Haggy), i think it could be something like this.

 

Journo... "do you consider what you are doing to be dangerous"

Rider...."we take safety seriously and our actions do not put anyone in any more danger than any of the thousands of push bike riders that use the roads"

Journo... "but surely you must accept that your actions put other road users at risk"

Rider...."we take safety seriously and our actions do not put anyone in any more danger than any of the thousands of push bike riders that use the same road, do you see any problem with cyclists?"

Journo...."no, we are talking about your actions"

Rider...."But there are cyclists who have caused injury and death to other road users, why are you not concerned about the actions of cyclists" 

(if they press the point mention that a cyclist killed a pedestrian on Beach Road Mentone, a feat which no skateboarder has been able to achieve  ....... )

 

Journo..."Bad Example to kiddies question...."

Rider...."we take safety seriously and our actions do not put anyone in any more danger than any of the thousands of push bike riders that use the same road, and we use superior safety equipment than any lycra clad cyclist, with our leather or kevlar clothing, padding and motorcycle grade helmets.  We always wear helmets and carefully plan our runs"

 

Journo..."No brakes question...."

Rider...."we take safety seriously and our actions do not put anyone in any more danger than any of the thousands of push bike riders that use the same road, and by using a sliding technique, can stop as well if not better than a cyclist."

 

Journo..."Video-in-question question ie crossing lines etc...."

Rider...."Ha, that was very old footage, and I am surprised that you found it, slow news day is it???.   We do not now ride like that, because we take safety seriously and our actions do not put anyone in any more danger than any of the thousands of push bike riders that use the same road."

 

Questions Questions Questions....

I have seen about 20 longboarders this week guess what not one wearing a helmet.  Each to their own head injuries are a nice way to die all fuzzy and warm like a bubblebath. What would suck would be not hitting your head and breaking your back or severing your spinal cord or having your internals crushed. If you are gonna die better to not know and fade out or die in horrific pain screaming for your mama.
