ok so i made some slide gloves and had been doing those slides where you basically get on your toe side and fall onto the ground and hold on. these normally end in me doing an involuntary 180. falling off trying to stay in the same direction or stopping. i riding a dervish with 86a durians btw and they rock. anyway i have been trying heelside slides and can do 180s fine but cant get my gloves down. so i tried grabbing the side of the board or the 'rail' as they are called with my left hand (im goofy) and BANG. THERE I GO SLIDING DOWN THE STREET. these are still hard and normally its a bit of a chattery slide that turns heaps and i end up turning up the street a bit but i did it. ive been practicing every day since i made the gloves and they are so awesome. i do need some tips on bringing the board back to the direction i started in though. i thnk what i want is called a speed check or something. cause even when on my toe side i manage to stay on at say 70 degrees off where i started the slide when i stand up the momentum nearly always throws me over and i have lost most of my speed. so any tips on how to use my slide gloves better would be appreciated. and dont forget to compliment my  awesomeness in landing a coleman slide :) jks.

slides to go smoothly needs a certain amount of commitment,in most cases commiting to the speed that is needed to bust it out, manouvre the board thru the slide and bring it back and ride out......if you are not travelling fast enough the resistance on your wheels will soon over power the momentum needed to complete it smoothly.......steeper slopes or more speed!!........
im no expert but as i was in ur situation like 2 months ago ill give it my best.....
wen sliding u need speed.... the more speed u have the more slide u get...
as of bringing it back just do the same as u did to get it ther.... but opposite..
instead of pushing forward with ur back foot pull it back....
my personal advice would be 'practice makes perfect'!!!!
the more u practice, the better ull get!
and as u start to get, build ur speed up gradually!!!
just get out ther and experiment differnt things!! there is no set way!!
if ther was a set way how would there be new things in life!!
hope this helps and gratz on ur coleman!!!!!
thanks. i figured speed would come into it but ill try to get more comfortable getting into them before i tackle some bigger slopes.
Work your way up the hill a bit and get more speed and confidence everytime. If the go a bit faster, the wheels will be easier to control. You basically have to do this by rotating your body and shoulders the way you want to go, and by pushing with your legs a bit. Watch this, it was when I was learning them:

How are those wheels holding up?
well everyone says 86 hours but for me thats not true.
so far they are the best wheels ive owned. slide easier than anything ive tried and not much sign of wear on them. they look worn in of course but seem fine so far.
i guess at my level of skating they last a while :)
