ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

So here I am, now in NSW, staying in a  Sleepy little town, not alot going on. Went out at the weekend and found the mother of all hills. Not gonna reveal its location for obvious reasons. my excitement was uncontainable. steeper, more tech, longer and sexier than anything I have seen so far. And set in the most incredible surroundings. Whats more, the traffic was minimal, and there were no houses, or side roads coming off it. My Van struggled to get up some of the steeps in 2nd gear....

Stood at the top, and dropped in, knowing it was gonna be a long decent, mainly cos the hill was so fucking long, but also because my current physical state isnt very good. After no more than 20 meters I got off my board, the surface was complete and utter hairy goat bollocks.  So bad I couldnt be bothered to continue skating it.

Given the right surface this spot would trump anything Radelaide or the Swiss Alps has to offer. To bad the road builders were using gravel and broken glass to make roads with in NSW.

Mike was it you i heard on ABC local radio recently talking skateboarding for go skate day?

If so, i am in that same vacinity and know the pain all too well (I could probably guess which hill you mean, there are a few in the region which would be epic with a decent surface). Unfortunately Hotmix is not the material of choice for local councils in the area, travel is the key. Keep scouting

I had almost the same experience on the sunny coast just the other day. The razor back between palmwoods and montville. It was always a one lane gravel goat track but I used it the other day and the top 150m was new hot mix. I was nearly giggling as I drove down it and then got bummed as it turned to a bit roigher stuff then as it came in to what would have been the gnarly tech approach to a really tight sweeper half of the lane was a crumbled mess.
I reckon the Gympie groms would do it though.
this Mountain/Hill wouldn't be situated close to a town called Cooma would it? because it sounds like something i found a year back travelling to the snowies....

i have spent hundreds of hours and drove thousands of kilometres throughout n.s.w in search of epic hills.

i have found heaps of epic, long winding hills but as you say, most have been to rough to bother revisiting.

there are not many smooth ones,if some of these were smooth they would definetly be as good as anything anywhere.

anyway,my advice on searching for hills would be to check back roads or roads that link one major road with another major road out in the country,as most known roads have been driven and checked etc,its the time searchin back roads that has been the hardest part as far as discovering hills in oz,theres so many out there that it will take a lot more than just a few dedicated souls searching to find the good hills,

as much as our sport has grown, there has definetly been a lack of people willing to go drive, burn fuel/money in search of somthing good.......i encourage all skaters to search, and hunt for new terrain,as the sport grows so does the demand for spots to ride, and the best way for a person to progress is to be able to skate all types of hills.

shredding your favourite hill is great but learning how to shred a new found hill is even better.

hope you find what you are lookin for mike,..its gotta be out there

dont think so corey,.rough hills are everywhere.
ohh definitely ben, it's just he mentioned he was staying in a really sleepy town or something and the description of the hill plus surroundings just sounded alot like down my way...
starting to froth about coming up soon dude, will be sick!

ahaha, i have spend countless hours scoping roads out on google maps, using the terrain and contours to see how much gradient the roads would have, and how they would do for skateboarding, then looking on the Streetview to get an indication of the surface..

ive found a ton of runs i want to try out, but i feel your pain Mike, i found this AMMAzing run like 3ks long, multiple hairpins, and pretty darn steep, but its as rough as guts..

To add salt to the wound I just went passed some road workers polishing off the mirror-like gloss finish to the freshly hot pressed inky black top they have been laying... on a flat carpark. Incredible.
Yeah it was I. my missus works for the ABC now, and they must be low on content, Ive been dragged in there three times now to talk about skateboarding. The state of Radio is poor indeed when they decide to talk to some embittered broken skater from Pomland, instead of  Oh I dunno, putting some records on?
