That has to be a good thing.

Good to see BSL still actively doing it, and are spreading the gravity sports stoke far and wide.

and

Cyclists would have to so much easier to deal with than the governing body of our chosen sport!

BSL stages legitimate, road closed, Council permitted, Police permitted and insurance covered Training Days on the Gold Coast. Tyler Johnson is the Co-Ordinater, with some of Australia's top lugers teaching new comers/general public how to ride luge safely, ie, Instruction on equipment, basics of riding techniques, ettiquette, etc.

These Training Days were witnessed by the media members of the cycling community, and were so impressed with the Training Days and Teaching Model used, that they have kept tabs on what's happening and often cover whats happening.

Approx 12 Training Days per year, with this model going into it's third year of instruction.

Ahhh, OK. Makes sense I suppose. Cool!

Getting roads closed is the key to all downhill events.

The committment and efforts by Tyler to get that many training days each year must be commended, by everyone that does what we do.

QLD skaters should make a point of supporting these efforts and learning from our "reclined" brothers and sisters as to the ways of working with councils and police, and in building greater success, professionalism and co-operation within our gravity sports.

I would even go as far as saying "try it" cause you might actually like it!

(or at least you will when your knees are fucked like us old gits)

Forget the past.

Well done Street Lugers, and congrats to the cycling community for making room in your family for our "reclined" brothers and sisters.

Sakamoto,

if you see any BSL events that night be of interest, post em up!

Fraid so!

There is a dark story that will be told one day, about their negotiations with VSA.

Thanks Bernie, much appreciated.

More than happy to talk/assist anyone regarding processes, permits, expectations...any questions about working with Councils, Police, etc. The core ASRA guys know how hard it is in staging legit events, as do alot of organisers like Bernie, etc...it ain't easy working through paperwork.

Dani,

To clarify that.

Skate Australia is the governing body for skateboarding in Australia

They own Skateboarding Australia Pty Ltd which is a $2 company also known to trade as SbA, and is primarily an event company set up to recognise the unique culture of skateboarding.....blah blah blah, see their FAQ.

Much as they would like to have you believe that SbA is the governing body, it simply is not, it is the skateboarder services provider to SA.

The only way that skateboarders can have any influence on the organisation is to become a registered coach, and from there be lucky enough to be selected to be part of the governing council (one from each state).  The role of the governing council is to cast a single vote to elect a director, just like the ones here ...governing body, amongst all the other votes cast by the roller/dance/speed/hockey skaters  Can you be a director?  Unlikely!

see this link

SbA does a pretty good job on their training sessions and invite only twig flipper comps. however if  this little gem .A to B with Dix published on SbA.org.au gives a reliable indication of their helmet and safe on-road skating policy position, and the fact that they have previously stated that "longboarders are not our kind of people" then you might well want to question who you really should be governed by.

Well if we are not their kind of people and they have never been involved with them as they have never been involved with us then they aren't really our governing body, I would think.

I doubt they are even skateboardings governing body. What is there to govern? You don't need them for comps, you don't need them to skate, you don't even need their skate clinics. Daily Grind has been running it's own free skate clinics for yonks. So what exactly are they meant to do?

That A to B with dix video is farkin sick! Rock to fakies on boulders at the top of a mountain! Wall rides?!? It's rad!

Looks like 'stand up' needs to jump on the luge wagon, to gain access to their events, if DH longboarding in SA is ever going to be as hassle free as it is in other parts of the world. Soon as revenue hungry cops of other states start to twig whats going on in SA, the other states will start clamping down on longboarding.

The first races I went to were actually Luge events, they allowed a stand up class to draw in extra cash, eventually of course the standup riders outnumbered the luge.

Props to the bike clubs for having vision, sharing the hills and sharing the love.

Tried that, went to bomb the snowies. It was a shit show and I was robbed of 600AUD. Wouldn't do it again.
