ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

Ok so Im gonna write the same thing to everybody to save myself some time and money here.

Hey everyone!

I have just arrived in Portland from the Cathlamet Downhill Corral and what a race.
A small town of only 4,000 decended on by 50 odd amazing downhill skaters for an entire weekend. K-Rimes, James Kelly, P-Swiss just to name some of my hero's.

The weekend started off with a push race and a slalom race on the Saturday, followed by partying in town with the locals and then back to the campsite for more. The talk of the town was the downhill course which was to take place on the following day.

I have just spent 5 odd minutes trying to describe the course but I cant do it. Put it this way. Out of 4 corners, this course had 3 and half crash corners. No one came out un-scathed today. Everyone crashed hard including the big names. Zac Mannum had few major slams into the bails and one really nasty fall in the slalom. The corners on this course were madness. manholes, cats-eyes, fire hydrants, you name it. Nice smooth surface though. The corners were incredibly tight with us racing in heats of four. Im not gonna say anything more because I cant do it justice.

I will add though that I placed 8th in all. Making it to the semi finals, "consilation round" with K-Rimes out in front, another dude whos name escapes me after him and then me and one other fella free riding down together and making the most of our last run.

I was incredibly happy with the way I raced and to place 8th was un-thought of for me especially with so many amazing riders. I got to race against K-Rimes, Switzer and James Kelly and that was plenty for me just to watch those guys roll.

The towns-folk were amazingly friendly. Everyone was really happy to see us and blown away to watch skating of this sort. We all signed autographs on shirts, backs, heads, hands, boards, paper and many more. Had lots of people wanting photos of and with us. I gave some kid some bearings and some Otangs wheels to stick on the free Rayne board he picked up in the throw away and to see the look on his face was something else. People talk about "sharing the stoke" but this was amazing.

Hopefuly lots of footage and photos will come out of it. I was a bit slack with the Go-Pro and the still camera but lots of media were present including local papers and TV.

Gotta track down Leeso and Jeremy now who are somewhere in this GREAT city of Portland. Portland locals are hosting a "Zoo Bomb" tonight, again featuring those 3 infamous names I have mentioned 3 times now. Then to Mary Hill in a couple of days.

(If anyone has a phone number for either Rodgers or Leeso could you PM it to me, it would be appreciated.)
