ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

G'day all,

Quick question, I'm looking at getting my 4 1/2 year old a board for christmas. He loves mucking around on mine but that means i don't get as much time on it... Question is what board to get? Being a young bloke as he is he doesn't weigh much at all. I would love to get him an Aussie made board too.

Don't worry about trucks and wheels etc I'll worry about them later. I just need ideas for a board. We will be looking at bombing massive hills, nah just kidding will just be rolling around town to start with. Places like the local school and paths to and from. He rides a scooter (should i admit it here??) exceptionally well for someone so young and even gets around down the local skate park on it.

I ride a Madrid Dream and want something similar but maybe a touch smaller. Don't want any of those old double kick skaties i used to ride as his sister has one and he wants "one like Dads"! Any help appreciated.

And do they make slide gloves that small or will i have to make some?

Cheers,

Gilly

This board may be a bit big I dunno, but a landyachtz carbon mummy? I had one, and it was so much fun!
FSMini could be a good idea. Looks pretty rad to me. I'd want one if I was 4... I wouldn't mind one now either.
Talk to Daddow man. He'll make a custom one just for your son.

definately consider either daddow or fat pigeon as these guys can custom taylor to your sons size and hell be able to say his board is one of a kind

Thanks all, i'll hit up Daddow first then fat pigeon. As for gloves he has motocross gloves but still uses them for his 4 wheeler. Might have to get some more then, i never thought of them. I was thinking maybe the shitty Bunnings garden gloves for kids but i much prefer the motocross gloves!!

GET A DADDOW 120Y

Kidding. So over seeing that....

I'd recommend making a dropdown shlongboard from a street deck, that way he's low to the ground and stable and the board is pretty much ideal length. I made my kids one (see my photos) and it made it far easier for them to learn to push because their legs are so short.

Alternatively, get him a Nemesis:

Yeah, that's what i'm after! Something I can borrow every now and then!

a fat pigeon foamy would be rad...then you can loan him your deck and ride his !!
I 2nd the Comet FSM mini suggestion if you can't afford a custom Aussie builder deck. I checked it out the other week for a 7 year old I've been teaching to slide. Worth looking at.
I picked up a z-flex to get my 3yo on eventually -and for me to muck around on.  You may be past this now, but it's easier to carry a z-flex, scooter and kid than a longboard, scooter and kid - i'm sure you know what i mean.  Don't know if it will be 'like Dad's' though.
The boards from them are made in china....
i had a vault 40" dropthrough and it lasted 6 months before it snapped clean in half although i doubt your son will be doin the stuff i did but still if any of you have ever seen inside one of these boards you would understand why noone buys them the ply almost looked like chip board!! but it was fun while it lasted now i ride a daddow praxis...BIG DIFFENCE!! hit up daddow bro
Thats what i'm after beet, nice work mate!! Guess i'll get onto it then. I've just hit up Daddow for a custom, waiting to hear back.
