ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

Hey Guys, so i need you help. At the moment i ride a Powel Peralta 'Whale Tail' shortboard. Its rad, and I already carve bowl, bomb hills, ride drains and ditches and pull slides on it. Its great, but I'm looking at getting a larger longbaord for more stability on hills etc. I've narrowed my choices down to these two.

-The new Z-Flex Longboard: http://zflex.com/longboards.html It uses the Kingpin Truck system which i'm used to, and i like the shape. I can get it for flat $200.

-And the Original Apex 34: http://store.originalskateboards.com/apex_34_longboard.aspx It uses their own Spring Systemed Truck which i've never used. I've heard mixed reviews about them. I really like the shape of this baord, in terms of its size, and identical shape either side, and with the spring systemed truck, i gather it means it can be ridden either direction, so landing switch isn't a problem. I like the versatility of this board. I can get it for $269 including postage.

Can anyone give me some advice from their own personal experiences or preferences? Cheers.

Apex 34 for sure!

Original Trucks aren't very stable at speed. They turn very sharp, which can be fun, but up and over about 25 kph, they feel pretty sketch. If you already have a speedboard or a few conventional longboards, then Original can be a fun setup in your quiver. If it is your only ride, not so much fun.

Alright. Cheers Matty. I'll keep looking into it. I can order the Original deck by itself for $129. Would it be worth purchasing the deck for that, then ordering some standard longboard Kingpin Trucks from somewhere off the internet, or in a store?

Personally I'd recommend ANY board over an Original, these boards are way overhyped on YouTube. The Z-Flex is actually a deck designed by Alex Luxat of Wefunk fame and is an exceptionally good shape, the trucks are quite a well done Paris knock off too. The Z would be my choice out of these 2 boards but neither will be particularly good on hills. You would be better off with a Globe Prowler (in this sort of price range). Or save a bit more and get a Sector 9 ( the Carbon Decline is a nice board).

Cheers. Adrian. I'll take that into consideration. On a whole, I tend to steer away from Globe, but I'll have a look at the Prowler. When I ride hills, it tends to not be more than 20-25 kph. So i like to bomb, and slightly carve the odd hill, but I wouldn't say i'm a downhill rider. With the boards I've chosen, because of their size they can perform in open and roll in bowls like the Snake Run at Bulleen, and Riverside Skatepark (Melbourne, Vic). Although i'm looking at the Carbon Decline at the moment. It looks RAD! Hahaha. I'll keep looking for a while I guess. Thanks for your input!

I just bought a carbon decline and its great on hills, only issue is that when u get to faster speeds the flex bounces you a little. But other than that its a great board!!

How much did you pay for it TJ? And where from?

i bought it off a friend for only 80 dollars, but he got it new at christmas and and hadn't used it so i was really lucky.

If your in the ACT like me there are a lot of sector 9's at A+ in civic. I would look there. He said he bought it off here
