This is a fundraiser for "Little Justin"
http://www.skateboardracing.org.au/profiles/blogs/little-justin

Skate starts at 9am. Marshalling and Safety inspection at 10am. Races commence at 12pm midday.

$5 Registration per rider, donations just to Justin are welcome
Message me for registration
For all those attending.
In order to speed up the days races and shrink marshalling time, send me a message with your name, age and if you can help or know someone who can help with lifts up the hill.

Those three things.
Any very generous parents?

- The track -
Moderate hill, lovely turns and bitumen in the top half.
Can have alot of leaves on it, however i have emailed the council requesting the use of a street cleaner before our skate event.
Bottom half has varied qualities of bitumen, however most is silky smooth.
Last time the event was on it had rained the day before and there was a small stream flowing after a few corners, however the turning and braking areas for corners are well surfaced and streamless.

- Parking -
There is a medium sized dirt carpark at the bottom of the hill however, if we fill it there is plenty of space along the side of the Cooroy-Noosa Road.

- Food -

No facilities at the track.
There is a BP petrol station about 1km away towards Tewantin.
Recommended to bring food and snacks. Drinks would be perfect in a small esky, or a large one. Troubles transporting an Esky? Ask the Gympie Crew and look for their Esky Run video.

- Safety -
Helmet required, and done up.
Gloves required
Pads, leathers and other extras welcome but not required
Bring a broom/petrol blower

- Sun Safety -
Bring sunscreen, don't want beetroot coloured skaters.
Just look at that guy doing the "Long Treks on Skate Decks" video
I will provide a shade tent, anyone else that has one is very welcome to bring it. Same with deck chairs, don't bring one, sit on the ground.

- Lifts to the top of the hill -
I can do one car load, however, anyone that can help please raise their hand.

- Prizes -
So far, Early Skateboards are contributing to prizes. But the best bit is street cred.

More information will be added soon

Any problems just message me, comment or email

Hope to see everyone there!

We (ASRA) can cover Public liability for your event. App and booking fees are always a bit negotiable. It might be $1000 for a motor racing hillclimb but it won't be for a skateboard race.

No chance of getting all the various things done for this event but in the future if you do decide to go that route ASRA can help with some of those things. Ideally some of the older gen get moving (hint emoticon) and do some of these kind of races because at your ages the council will just laugh at you.

Firstly... We were underage, 16-17, and we were (Me, Nick and Myles) were super stoked it went well... BUTTTTTT

The reality is, when we organised it, we looked at making it a legit event. I called the council, made a few inquires, and after much deliberation (and lying about my age) i got directed to this, (http://www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au/addfiles/documents/events/event...) this is the event application process, a long and dry, poorly written form. preety much, you have to have 2 things...
1. Public Liability (costing nearly 30 grand, and liability waivers are not an option)
2. Paying an application fee, upwards of $1000\

Preeeety much, unless your Dan Mactagert, your fucked.

(Smiling)...There is much happening, Jacko, and you're probably aware of it. so bearing that in mind, talking face to face would be the best way to discuss the behind the scenes effort of those who advise caution, through their experience, especially those who are a little older than yourself.

outlaw events will not ruin anything. if you think outlaw events are so bad then put in the effort and get a race sanctioned, but last time i saw theres a whole heap of kids out there who are super stoked to get into longboarding these days and no ones putting on events for them, and right now they are all that stoked that they are coming together as friends and throwing events for people to attend, therefore giving races to the public weather it be legal or not, but as far as im concerned these outlaw events will have no effect on the sport in any way other than pushing it forward coz it gets more people hooked on racing.

If it so happens that shit gets so bad that one hill gets completeley shut down as far as skateboarding events go then fuck it whatever, theres plenty of other hills out there, and it seems to me that the last race these KIDS threw together (if im not correct here please tell me, but i think all the people who organized the last race were underage) went off without a hitch and a lot of people had a great time!

all legit events are there to stay, just coz someone threw together an outlaw event with about 30-40 people show up doesnt mean the entire range of legit events will fail... take a look at how the sport evolved in other countries that are much more mature than ours is in terms of the growth of longobarding, they have soooooo many outlaws and its not funny, did their sport die? did all their legit events get shut down? are they all labeled as bad kids who are up to no good? no! they are all getting MORE legit events and have built up scenes so big that some of the skaters coming out of these areas are taking over the world!

So no offense to all the people who are having a winge about "outlaw races are no good", but seriously, either step up and make your own legit event thats fully sanctioned and shut down, or shut up and let the crew have some fucken fun for fucks sake,...

Outlaw events, if bad publicity is involved, will not allow the sport to grow. There is MUCH that is happening behind the scenes at the moment, with alot of hardwork going into it, by alot of people, and an outlaw which attracts bad publicity wil jeopodise all those efforts for legit events. Legal "Free Rides" and "Events", for all disciplines, are the future for Gravity Sports. We've come too far in gaining acceptance and sponsorship monies for it to be blown, possibly, by "quickie, hit and run" style outlaw gatherings. This is a great cause, great opportunity for good publicity, if staged correctly. If you need help or advice guys, just message the respective ASRA crew or other organisers around the country, I'm sure they would be more than willing to give direction and advice, just ask directly.
Everybody wants the same thing, a great gathering to raise monies and awareness, and a "positive" for future events/free rides.

Any event on this hill should have counsel approval before anyone gets there. It only takes one walker, cyclist or resident to make a complaint to the police and they can shut it down. If they are really annoyed then they can push for a no skateboarding sign and that blows any riding at all on the hill for the future.

This is a road that is technically legal to ride but if 50 people show up announced and they see a danger to public safty they will shut it down.

The days of outlaw events are over. This is a great cause it should be done right. The last thing anyone wants is a fund raiser being shut down by the police, it brings the wrong attention to the cause.

This is very similar to a post I wrote on about the last Noosa event and to all those that think im a naysayer and am lazy and dont wanna put effort towards new events etc. im not. I am just trying to let people know of the reality of the situation.

Outlaw events jeopardise future legitimate events and no one wants that. I wanna see gravity sports flourish, we have to play by the rules to do that.

With all that said, when this event gets permission I offer my assistance in anyway I can.

I really hope this event gets permission. Its a fun hill, a great cause and I really wanna be part of it.

Have a fantastic night people

Cheers
Tyler Johnson.

If you're just running it like an outlaw, and not worrying about the council, then you should at least check that there isn't a legit event on that weekend. Such as a cycle event, or the hill climb.

Councils see skateboards and luges under the same law. If you have permission for one, you have permission for the other.
I'm assuming you don't have council permission to use the road. Because if you did then you wouldn't have to worry about walkers or cyclists on the day. The road would be closed, and it would be yours. And you could stop people from walking and cyclists going up and down it.

If you put your sign out giving notice without having permission it could be an invite for you to get in trouble rather than giving the public notice. It's basically telling the authorities to come out on that day.

Sorry just trying to help.
Will be a great event either way. Would be great to go to.

Does this event have council permission yet? Have they put it in writing? Hope it all works out well, sounds like a nice venue.
