Master Blaster 29th April 2017-04-30
What a great day of racing at the old Masters hardware store delivery road! With a nervous start, the weather, rain and wind were extremely kind and we could race uninterrupted all day.
The hybrid course was raced for the majority of the day, which included a personal consistency challenge then closing with a 50 cone challenge snuck in at the end.
Hybrid:
We saw some great racing in the Hybrid and with Dan dishing out some awesome setups as loaner boards ensuring everyone had a great board to race. Wedge was smashing it all day earning him third place. Andrew was also smashing out some great, clean and super consistent runs, look out when he graduates beyond his modified vert deck and gets some engineered slalom trucks… woosh!
Placings:
Johnny - 14.29 secs
Dan – 14.69 secs
Wedge – 16.18
Merv – 16.54
Andrew – 16.88
Noel – 17.44
Clinton – 22.47
Bernie – 27.49
Consistency Personal Challenge:
This is a new concept introduced by Dan that rewards the most consistent rider rather than the fastest riders with some prizes. This way any rider at any level of skill can be rewarded for their efforts. How it worked, at any time during the Hybrid challenge, the rider nominates a max of 2 runs (prior to starting the run) and the 3 riders with the smallest time differences between those 2 runs wins.
Top 3 consistency placings:
Merv – 0.05 secs (prize chosen, Hammer Tape Griptape)
Andrew – 0.8 secs (prize chosen, Bones Race Bearings)
Dan – 0.13 secs (prize Macs Tee shirt donated to Darren as reward for Time Keeping)
50 Cone CLEAN (straight at 1.8 metre spacing):
Being at the end of the day our tanks were pretty much empty when we set up the 50 cone course, but after our first roll we dug deep. We not only raced the clock, each other we were also racing the weather as the grey skies threatened to dump on us at any moment which kept the runs flowing quickly. Dan and Johnny simply take it up to the next level, between them they broke the Vic 50 cone record 8 times on the day. Johnny taking out the fastest time of the day and the Victorian Clean 50 cone record with an incredible 12.35 seconds (previous record held by Dan was at 12.97 sec) with Dan coming in second only 6 hundredths of a second behind.
Placings:
Johnny – 12.35 secs (new Vic 50 cone CLEAN record)
Dan – 12.41 secs
Merv – 15.00 secs
Andrew – 15.87 secs
Bernie – 23.97 secs
Note: Wedge only had time to do one run and hit 2 cones with a time of 14.90 secs so he does not show in the clean times above, next time we’ll start the 50 cones earlier Wedge.
