I reckon:

  1. dual lane from the start down the straight, then
  2. single lane no cones from before carnage corner to after camp corner, then
  3. dual lane for the first 100 metres after camp corner, and then
  4. single lane no cones til the finish.

that sounds hectic benny, we should spend an afternoon up there when you guys get back and find a fun format for the course. id like to gs down to the straight before carnage corner, giving each lane a left and a right hander on the inside, then just open it up.

So duel lane TS breaks down to single lane GS to the finish line.

I reckon It should be tight slalom for the first 20 cones then it breaks to one GS lane, so its 2 races in one. Racers will have to try and get through the TS as quickly as possible to get in front of the other before the GS lane starts. It's just a thought, but it could be fun...

a lot of skateboard races involved parts of the course were riders are forced to either give up the line or crash hard, yes it finishes your day when you have to hold back and give the win in order to not crash....thats the nature of skateboard racing i suppose.

Head to head definitely sounds good. I'm keen as now.

I like the no cone zone idea where drafting can come into play, but as soon as you get 2 riders vying for a single lane, it's only gonna end up pear shaped.

Which leads to breaking into 2 separate lanes again. One of them is always going to be the easier/shorter run with the nature of the course mostly turning left creating a dominant inside line.

I'm not sure it'll be shit - I think it depends on the hill and the course. At Bangalow it was basically a question of whoever got to the single-lane section first was going to win. But I can see it working differently at Pumpy - it might make more sense to be second into a single-lane section so you can use the draft of the person in front to shoot out into the next dual-lane section with more speed. They key is making the single lane sections more like downhill than like slalom so that drafting can play a role. The single-lane sections need to be longish and fast and open (little or no cones).

The other thing that can be done is make a rule that the leader coming out of a single-lane section must take the slower of the two lanes (if there is a slower lane).

About 10 years ago Dual slalom GS with shared gates was done at Bangalow and has never been done since.

Reason, it was shit.

It came down to the final and Daddow faced Haggy. They both pumped hard up to the single gate and Daddow had to yield to avoid a major collision.

Shared gates is up there with Russian roulette slalom ie. one cone is filled solid with concrete and no one knows which one it is. Its just a matter of time before someone gets seriously injured when it could easily have been avoided.
