Event Description

It’s on again!

The second annual Collingrove Cup will be held at the Collingrove Hillclimb track, Angaston South Australia on October 29th - 30th 2011.

The Track
Although it’s only 800m long the narrow technical track will be sure to test the skill and patience of many of the countries best downhill racers over 2 days of racing.

Disciplines and Format

All disciplines will be catered for including Downhill skateboard, Classic luge, G-Bike and Streetluge. The format will be:

  • $100 rider rego fee (see below for more details)
  • 100 entries only
  • 2 man elimination rounds over 2 days
  • Race to qualify
  • $$$$$$$ CASH PRIZES$$$$$$$
  • Trophies, prizes and more!

Standup will have Pro division (over 18) and Junior division (under 18yrs) but please note that you can only race in one division not both for standup.

*Groms Take Note*
This year will be different than last year in the fact that we are stepping it up and trying to make the event flow quicker and give more track time to riders, so by doing this ALL disciplines will be using the full track.

IGSA RULES APPLY

Registration will open on July 6th at 7pm (SA time) and close at midnight October 16th 2011. All entry fees must be paid before this date, if not pay on the day is available but will be $150.

With over 200 skaters in Adelaide alone this event is sure to sell out fast so get in quick to secure your spot. This is a legal event on a closed road with ambos, shuttle buses, food, drinks, music and the Cre8ive Sk8 air fence will be in action too!

SA CREW TAKE NOTE! We are planing at least 1 training day at the track between now and October to give some of the younger guys and beginners a go at the track. Stay tuned for an announcement on dates for this!

See you on the hill!!!

I wasn't there and so can't comment on what happened, and nor should anyone else who also wasn't there.

Every event has issues of some sort, if we could make it perfect we would. Each year we try to learn from the mistakes we make to improve BtB.

The two Newton's I attended both had problems which were worked on to improve and I understand that those issues didn't occur at Newtons '10. None of us are perfect. None of us know everything. There is always room for improvement.

I am buying into this discussion to support the guys who organised this event and the band of volunteers who stepped up to the plate to help when things got sticky. As Mr Bastard has said, there is no need to get personal and bring your own issues onto a public site it is neither helpful nor professional. I would hope that at some stage there will be a objective article written about this event with good pics and a positive spin, it'll make me happier to spend my advertising and subscription dollars locally.

Jake, I like where you're coming from. The simple thrill of riding down a hill is the fundamental thing.

But I don't think the pros have forgotten that. They get just as much stoke from riding as anybody else, maybe more.

I think this thread has gotten to the "more heat than light stage". I'm interested in constructive comments aimed at getting to the bottom of what happened and what went wrong, even if that implies blame on certain people, but I'd like to see that happen with a lack of aggression and a lack of defensiveness. Hey, I'm a dreamer. Share my dream.

now look...im just a grom and not a great skater..but im not bad at it. is this the reason why we skate..is to see whos the best...yes a few people stuff shit up..but doesnt everyone. the whole reason i got into long boarding was the thrill of goin down a chiller hill and not worring about anything...just having fun. i think alot of you pro's have forgotten what its all about. remember when you started...the peace it gave and the accomplishment when you got to the bottom of a hill. i know that your trying to make the sport big..put you gotta make it fun for future groms that want to by pro's. im not having a go..just want some of you to think. :)

Judge, there is standard formats of racing here

tried and true spreadsheet formats of all types that WORK. Groms successfully run events and can populate a race tree all the time. No one is questioning the other work going into the rest of the event organisation, the issue here is the race format that ruined the biggest category of the race.

want more racing? do a round robin. MOTH had 80+ riders, each had multiple, race heats and we did it in a day. I know for a fact that ASRA put a lot of effort in preparing a format and even pre populating a spreadsheet with the registered riders, but it was ignored for some reason or another and you're left with people pissed off about spending money to travel a far distance to race... and so they should be.

Sakamotto, i'm not even going to read the shit that dribbled out of your head and onto the comments below, you've obviously have a skewed version of how these things go down - not even going to attempt to reason with a non reasonable person.

yeh theres lots of people with questions they would like to kno the answers to,

after speaking with most of the riders after the event,a lot had little gripes about how things went for them personally.

just with the substitution incident, why did we have to substitute,.how come there was no spot for kelly,or no spot for matt, either way you look at it,didnt seem right being unbeaten all day then not being a part of the final group of riders.

i kno a few people were dropping out with injury, but there was a mix up somewhere with that incident, wasnt up to the riders to sort out,.the look on kellys face when he thought he was out was the riders motivation for what we did,and matt informing us he'd been beaten once......later we realised that he lost in the first round therefore he shouldnt of stepped down,.

not trying to dig up dirt, just trying to make more sense of it all.

and when we were down to the final 4 unbeaten riders, wasnt it just 2 semis,a final and a consi final? standard stuff?

Airfence, DJs playing good music, good food, great vibe and friendly people; this was all appreciated; I had a great time racing on the Saturday. I also appreciate all the people that volunteered their time for us. I don't want to dwell on it and not trying to offend anyone personally but what Gabe said pretty much sums up my thoughts about it; 'you have to be slightly retarded to put that much effort into a race and screw up something as simple as the race format.'

I live for skateboard racing and this was a big deal for me, cost over $600 easily to come to this event, I'm shattered that I don't get a place or any points towards rankings. The last 'Non-ASRA' event was also a massive (expensive) fckup and this is a gamble I wont be taking again in the future.

See yas at BTB! :)

Sakamoto I made the decision to give Kelly my spot on account of him ripping all day despite me only losing a race on the Sunday when it wasn't an elimination round. At the top of the pushoff line nobody had any idea what was going on and happy with my placing on the day let Kelly take the spot as we were all sick of the confusion.

However, things were not running fine and dandy up to that point and clearly started to go wrong earlier in the day so to say that most of the shit storm came from that decision I made to not take any prizemoney or a shot at 3rd is not accurate.

Apart from all that I did have a great weekend of skating and enjoyed meeting a heap of new guys.

IMO you have to be slightly retarded to put that much effort into a race and screw up something as simple as the race format.

KELLY WON!
