Event Description

Early morning freeride down the hill.

  • If you can't take on hill climb with ease, stay away.
  • If you can't foot brake or slide at speed, stay away.
  • If you don't wish to wear a helmet, pads and gloves, stay away.
  • If you have trouble staying in your lane, stay away.
  • If you think I'm an ass... Stay Away :p

Now that is sorted... I have in the pipeline a full fledge road shut down, haybaled, leather fullface wearing, point scoring race!

So, donations towards that would be welcome, but completely up to you!  I would however prefer donations of time when it does happen and for any help along the way you could offer.

Format

  1. Get there at 5am - The gate will be closed
  2. Walk to the top and shred down to the bottom.  Repeat.
  3. 6am - Start doing car trips up until the traffic gets to intense.
  4. 9am - If I still haven't made any headway with the very helpful council that sends me in loops by then, storm the council fortress with skaters and demand a straight answer from them!

Any other suggestions I will take into consideration!

Total Distance:
2.00km | 1.24mi

Starting Altitude:
191m | 627ft

Finishing Altitude:
59m | 194ft

Average Gradient: 6.6%

Elevation Loss: 132m | 433ft

Surface Type:
Smooth Bitumen / Asphalt (Not so smooth now)

Making headway with the legit race.

Now have someone who knows what they are doing with maps on the team!

There should be some activity with the council and police soon enough, if we can cause as much of a disturbance at once, they will give in eventually!!!!

Yeah, I would recomend it.  If it's a new hill to you, then you may as well be safe than sorry.

and that surface type, it's not so smooth any more.  There are a couple of rough patches!

Yeah, I'm working on all that.  ASRA should be able to sell me some insurance, or I will go online to AON or something.

I've got a contact for the first aid

Council... don't get me started, but I am making my way through the red tape...

As far as the Kiosk at the top is concerned, I will tell them that the road is not completely shut, just that the car access is controlled.

and if we get enough people there, I'm sure they will make a fortune selling food and drinks anyway.

If you know anyone who can help me with the council stuff, just give me a PM!

As far as i know you would probably need the following to close that hill -

Permit from the Council
 - This would require a permit from the police,

 - A Traffic management plan. Brisbane city council normally requests you use the electronic billboards to advertise the future closure of roads. These aren't cheap.

 - You'll need a Risk assessment.

 - You'll need to have permission / an understanding from the cafe at the top of the hill. (This will be hard as they may loose revenue, unless you hold it at a time that they aren't open yet. Keep in mind most restuarants opening times are not their operating times. The kitchens are normally open earlier in the day to recieve goods.)

 - You will need to outline what sort of first aid you'll have in place as well for the event.

The brisbane city council will also list what sort of facilities you'll require to have in place depending on the amount of spectators/riders you will have.

And finally you'll require insurance. I think its standard to have a 20mil public liabilty coverage, and i'd recommend having some sort of rider and event organiser insurance as well.

Plus a lot more....

All of that is if you're going for a legit event. Other option is to ride it whilst its gates are still closed and walk up the hill.

Yeah, I've now got the permit forms, just need to find the department about road laws, because we need permission to break the law about riding on a road with lines and over the speed limit now!

Also need a detailed risk assesment, track outline, where the ambo will be, traffic management and everything else to do with the running of the day.

Logan, Tim has yet to secure a permit to close the road.  The road is closed up until 6am by a boom gate at the base of the hill.  As the road is public access road, permits are required thru Brisbane City Council before we can close the road.  Going ahead and closing it wiithout permission will not be doing DH skating any favours down the track. (pardon that accidental pun at the end there)

If you really want to come, just pad the hell up and make it before 6am (the gate opens then and cars and bikes start using the road).  We have the full road then, and even if you just do the bottom part, it would still be fun.  (it's the smoothest part anyway)
