Are you talking about running a ditch session as a race eg. double header?

Its not so much the speed as having a clean and even start to the race. The top 8 guys split .5sec over a standard slalom course and individual races split 10ths and sometimes 100ths of a sec in a race. A bad start on a ramp might give away 1 or 2 10ths of a sec by the 1st cone, a bad push start might lose you a sec at the first cone at which point you could give the race away.

This has a greater effect when running head to head as the beep start is geared differently. Given how tight the racing is these days its better to see guys slalom each other to death then see one guy push away at the start. for those guys that aren't so good at pushing, a slalom board with ultra loose trucks and a very high center of gravity is a wild beast.

Mark this is from PC on Charlie in Coneheads "start ramp thread", ramps do make head to head pretty exciting and a lot more fun...no matter how fast the road really, I mean we had start ramps on conrod straight?

I drafted up a few different designs & settled on this combination because of the materials I had available. Dimensions are :-
915mm high (3ft) with surface.
800mm wide.
1200mm long platform.
1000mm radius to the top roll over section that joins at 45 degrees incline to a 2100mm radius transition lead out.
Should be a nice easy roll for 1st timers yet very pumpable for more experienced riders.
The top 1 metre radius roll over was designed to allow longboards to use the ramp as well, at 800mm wide it will fit nicely in Kincumber drain.
My drain racing board with 76mm gumballs, Randall trucks & a 34inch wheelbase will just make it over without dragging.
Testing on No 1 will start weekend after MOSS Jam.
I'll let you know how they roll.

sounds like you want to go really fast robbo this hill aint no slug.
what would the platform need to be 900 wide ? by 1 metre long ?, would the post need to be about 800 high maybe less ? figuring on approx 3 ft high with
curved roll in to ramp with gradual curved bottom, ohh how i like them curved bottoms.
got the trannys, got the ribs, will need to pass the hat for ply, can rope the labour.
been a bit of talk bout a saturday night springy ditch session under lights is this something we can do or does it need to go through the cabel.

Carribean is a new buttery road closed to cars, great grip and faster than the photo shows.
So far we have set up hybrid courses to our level but cant wait for Bug's etc to nut out something special.
Push start but we have marquee, chroncone dual lane timing system, laptop, cones, barby and bev's.
Looking forward to seeing you guys again....been to long.
Here's some footage of the hill......
