Event Description

The slalom season ends with giant slalom at the Pump Station.

The Course
We plan to have the first ever full-length slalom race at the Pump St, with cones loose enough to ride a longboard.

Race Format
This will be a jam, which means that everybody will have a certain number of timed runs down the course, with the fastest run determining the winner. Get there early for practice so you can make the most of your timed runs.

The Start
For the first time at the Pump Station we'll use a 5 foot high start ramp to launch people at the first cone.

Start ramp details
Top transition: 1.2 metre radius
Straight section: 800 mm at 45 degrees
Bottom transition: 2.4 metre radius

How to get there
The location of the Pump St is known only to the initiated. All are welcome to attend, but first you have to find out where it is. Contact either me, Mountain Mick, Trav, or Robbo for details and the secret handshake.

Pump St Etiquette
1. Don't park in driveways or anywhere a local resident might not like.
2. Take all your rubbish with you when you leave.
3. Be nice to dogs, small children and all other creatures.
4. Everything else.

Can I race?
Yes, but you have to:
(a) Be a financial ASRA member. You can join up on the day, or you can do it now.
(b) Pay the $20 race entry fee on the day.
(c) Wear a helmet and gloves. Pads are a good idea too.

last time I spoke to the prez (Mick) there was talk of a change to the course, to make it more downhill friendly.

BTW has anyone else noticed that this clashes with the Collingrove Cup Race. Could this date be changed to allow people to attend both?

While I love the traditional BMB course, it would be good to have at least one conehead race a year that people could get through on a longboard. Especially with the popularity of downhill it would keep the slalom stoke flowing. I remember the success of the longreef night race where there was a long queue for the B course (including me!)

I think we should set a different type of course this year. Get PC's doublehead start ramp down (or if its not available have a real long push start!) and launch in earlier for more speed and bigger swooping turns. More of a GS feel in other words. Easier for all the downhill groms too. And more likely to get a buttboard through ;-)

Actually I just realised I exaggerated how tight the course is at the Pump Station - it's not 6' apart, more like about 8' at the start, and then getting bigger as the speed builds up. I still don't think a buttboard could get through it, unless you radically shortened the wheelbase, and even then I'm not sure.

Scotty, Like Dave said, there's no rule against buttboards, but I can't imagine how you could get a buttboard through a course where the cones are about 6' apart. Most people will be skating decks with wheelbases about 20" and I know that it would be impossible for me to get a 30" wheelbase through the course.

Its set much tighter than Townsville. It would be too tight for Butt Boards.
Not that im ruling you out or anything as im not involved in the running of it but they would not be suited to it.
